Liverpool are set to wear Nike kits from next season after winning a court battle with their existing manufacturer, New Balance.

The Reds were being sued over its alleged refusal to honour the terms of its £40million-a-year deal with New Balance, which expires at the end of the season.

New Balance were entitled to renew their sponsorship if they matched the terms of any competitor, which they believed they had.

However, the court ruled in favour of Liverpool’s new deal with Nike with Mr Justice Teare dismissing the case.

A Liverpool club statement said: "LFC is pleased with the Judge's decision to rule in favour of the club following the legal dispute with New Balance.

"We will continue with New Balance for the current season, in combination with preparing next season's Liverpool kits with our new supplier.“

And the news has got Liverpool fans excited.

Perhaps a little bit too excited.

That’s because #Mbappe2020 was trending on Twitter shortly after the court ruling.

Mbappe is, of course, a Nike athlete and supporters believe - or want to believe - that a new kit deal could help bring him to Anfield.

Incidentally, earlier this week Brazilian legend Rivaldo encouraged Mbappe to leave Paris Saint-Germain in favour of Spain or England.

"With all due respect to PSG, I believe he must leave for a Spanish or big English team in the future to confirm himself as the heir to Messi or Ronaldo.

"The best players need to play in the best leagues."

Could you imagine Mbappe, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane behind Roberto Firmino?
