The Cristiano Ronaldo v Lionel Messi debate is one that will probably rumble on for the rest of eternity.

On both sides of the divide, fans will passionately defend their chosen phenom and aggressively slate the other.

Countless experts have weighed in with their opinion on the matter and we are still no closer to deciding who is better.

However, Ronaldo's former colleague and Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs has waded into the debate, but it's difficult to tell if he has actually picked a side.

“Obviously I lean towards Ronaldo a little bit because I played with him and saw him develop as a player,” the 45-year-old told DAZN.

But Messi is a genius, he’s a once in a lifetime player. It’s as simple as that.

While he might say he leans towards the Portuguese, it seems to us like Giggs has a soft spot for Messi.

Messi recently became the first player to score in 15 consecutive Champions League campaigns while Ronaldo scored his 700th career goal only days before.

As lovers of the beautiful game, perhaps it is time we just started to appreciate them for their unreal capabilities, instead of constantly trying to find fault.

Long may Messi and Ronaldo's careers continue - and long may we enjoy them while we still can.
