Real Madrid are arguably the greatest club in footballing history.

They've won a record number of Champions League crowns and European Cups, hold the title as Spain's most decorated league club and were named the FIFA Club of the Century in 2000.

But even the biggest of clubs have their off-days and exactly 10 years ago today, Real Madrid suffered a humiliating 4-0 defeat to third-tier Alcorcon in the Copa del Rey.

Two goals from Borja Perez, a strike by Ernesto Gomez and an Alvaro Arbeloa own goal secured the historic upset and Real couldn't recover the deficit during the second leg.

So, on the anniversary of this astonishing result, we decided to look back on Real's starting XI and see where life has taken them since that doomed night at Alcorcon.

GK - Jerzy Dudek

The fans' favourite at Liverpool only ever made 15 appearances for Los Blancos and shipping four goals to third-tier opposition was certainly the nadir of his four-year stay.

Dudek decided to hang up his gloves in 2011, briefly trying his hand at motor-racing in the Volkswagen Castrol Cup and appearing at numerous UEFA events as an ambassador.

RB - Alvaro Arbeloa

Contrary to his performance at Alcorcon, Arbeloa would go on to win the World Cup with Spain in the following summer and spent seven further seasons at the Bernabeu.

He eventually retired in 2017 after a forgettable spell at West Ham United and maintains close links with the Real squad.

CB - Raul Albiol

The Spanish centre-back never set the world alight in the capital and the 2009-10 season would prove to be his most bountiful with 43 appearances.

His 2013 exit coincided with the departure of Jose Mourinho and he would go on to enjoy six seasons with Napoli, turning out over 200 times, before switching to Villarreal this summer.

CB - Christoph Metzelder

What an absolute clanger of a signing from Real. This disaster-class was one of Metzelder's final ever appearances in the famous white jersey, departing just eight months later.

Returning to his native Germany, the defender spent three years with Schalke and eventually hung up his boots in 2014 after a solitary appearance for TuS Haltern.

LB - Royston Drenthe

You know you're in trouble when you're playing Drenthe at left-back. The unpredictable Dutchman didn't actually leave the Bernabeu until 2012 after loan spells with Hercules and Everton.

He's currently playing his football with Kozakken Boys in the third tier of Dutch football, but is also forging a career in the music industry. His rap debut 'Paranoid' has 300,000 views on YouTube.

CM - Mahamadou Diarra

A season that marked the beginning of the end for Diarra at Real, the Malian midfielder eventually moved to AS Monaco in 2011 and made nine appearances as they dropped down to Ligue 2.

Diarra then spent three nondescript seasons with Fulham and was last seen turning out for Brentford's B team in a doomed comeback attempt on English shores.

CM - Guti

A night to forget for one of the most underrated footballers of the modern era. Guti played over 500 games for his boyhood club and kissed the Bernabeu goodbye after this very season.

And after ending his playing career with Besiktas, he turned his attention to coaching and is now the assistant manager in Turkey after five years with the Real youth squads.

CAM - Rafael van der Vaart

Yet another player who would be axed in the summer, Van der Vaart never produced his best in Spain but quickly showed Los Blancos what they were missing with a superb spell at Tottenham.

The 36-year-old retired after appearances at Hamburg, Real Betis, FC Midtjylland and Esbjerg fB. Bizarrely, he's now trying his hand at the world of professional darts.

CAM - Esteban Granero

Despite breaking numerous records in the Real reserve teams, Granero never made the cut in the first team and his Alcorcon anonymity couldn't stop a 2012 switch to Queens Park Rangers.

Granero was last seen turning out for Espanyol, having hopped between two spells at Real Sociedad after 25 appearances and just one goal in the Premier League.

ST - Karim Benzema

Whatever happened to this guy? Benzema was playing his first season at the club when he got the nod against Alcorcon and has gone on to become a club legend in the 10 campaigns since.

With 228 goals in 476 games for the club, Benzema has been an absolute bargain and will continue to be a reliable supply-line of goals for years to come.

ST - Raul

Being substituted during a 4-0 battering to Alcorcon certainly wasn't a highlight of Raul's final season at Real, but he still rounded off his legendary Real spell with seven goals in 2009-10.

The Spaniard helped lead Schalke to a Champions League semi-final the following year and now coaches the Real Madrid B Team after finishing his playing career at New York Cosmos.

Substitute - Fernando Gago

Left the Bernabeu in 2012. Currently at Velez Sarsfield after six years with Boca Juniors, brief spells with AS Roma and Valencia and a steady flow of Argentina caps.

Substitute - Marcelo

Only the second player in the team that still plays for Real, Marcelo has established himself as one of the greatest left-backs in modern football history. Part of the furniture at the Bernabeu.

Substitute - Ruud van Nistelrooy

An absolute legend of the game, but a player who was running out of steam by 2009. Van Nistelrooy is now coaching at PSV Eindhoven after retiring with spells at Hamburg and Malaga.
