Dereck Chisora should fight Oleksandr Usyk next after stopping David Price in the fourth round, according to his manager and promoter David Haye.

Chisora overpowered his fellow British competitor during their bout at the O2 on Saturday night, with Price’s team throwing in the towel.

It was a typically powerful performance from the 35-year-old and Haye believes he deserves a shot at Usyk.

“I don’t think there are too many heavyweights that could handle that kind of assault,” Haye began.

“He did what he’s trained to do in working behind his jab and he ground him down.

“To break his heart, and use his inside work and bust him up. Not too many heavyweights can take that kind of heat.

“I’d like to see him in with Usyk and Usyk is the mandatory with the WBO. It’s a possibility.”

Haye revealed that it is not just him who is interested in the fight, confirming that he has discussed the potential bout with Usyk’s promoter Eddie Hearn.

“Eddie (Hearn) likes that fight a lot. Whether it’s now I don’t know.

“I got to sit down with Eddie and talk to him, and I like Dereck vs Usyk. I like it a lot.

“He has been consistently training for a whole year non-stop. He probably had two or three weeks off the whole year because he’s getting his body fitter and fitter.

“He’s fighting in two or three months and he’s going to be fitter next time.”

Usyk, who became the undisputed cruiserweight champion in 2018, made his debut in the heavyweight category two weeks ago when he defeated Chazz Witherspoon in seven rounds.

That victory meant that he remained as the mandatory challenger to the victor of Anthony Joshua’s rematch with Andy Ruiz Jr.

Usyk’s mandatory status may prove to be a sticking point regarding the potential for a bout with Chisora, but Haye is certainly pushing for it.
