The Championship fixture between Nottingham Forest and Reading at the City Ground was postponed because of a water-logged pitch yesterday. It was one of six matches throughout the English Football League system that were called off on Saturday amid heavy rain.Tranmere and Doncaster’s League One meeting was the first to be abandoned, while Bolton's trip to Lincoln suffered the same fate.In League Two, Forest Green and Crewe, Grimsby and Cheltenham, and Macclesfield and Bradford could not go ahead as planned.Details of the rescheduled matches are expected to be announced in due course.

Rarely does an entire football season reach its conclusion without disruption, yet regrouping after a match is cancelled must be a logistical nightmare.

Well, in some cases, it doesn’t have to be.

Forest made the best of their scrapped fixture by donating all the food that would’ve been served at their ground this weekend to Framework - a local charity for the homeless.

The club gave away 3,000 food parcels including pies, pastries and sandwiches, rather than merely letting it go to waste.

It’s a simple act that will mean a lot to those in need.

The gesture was met with widespread approval on social media, particularly fans of the 1979 and 1980 European Cup winners.

“I love what this club has become - it's every bit as important as what happens on the pitch as far as I'm concerned,” one said.

Another described their reaction as: “You know that nice feeling you get when you see something good and you think, ‘that’s my team’? That.”

Sitting tenth on the Championship table, Forest will be looking to snap a two-match losing streak when they return to the pitch.

Sabri Lamouchi’s men are set to face Luton Town at Kenilworth Road next Saturday, and if you believe in karma, it’ll certainly be on their side.
