Pep Guardiola could retire tomorrow and still be considered one of the greatest managers in history.

The Catalan has won it all. Bursting onto the scene with an avalanche of silverware at Barcelona, he's now plying his trade at Manchester City and continues to hoover up most trophies in his wake.

However, when Guardiola's career is looked at and assessed, it's his three seasons with Bayern Munich that are by far the most overlooked.

A lack of Champions League success inevitably means that some fans consider Guardiola's tenure unsuccessful, but there were still plenty of positives - and trophies - to take from Germany.

And we've decided to look at the transfers that Guardiola made in the Bundesliga to see how his spending compared to the far more publicised purchases in Spain and England.

Guardiola's Bayern Munich signings

Check out the 13 captures he made, according to Transfermarkt, down below:

1. Mario Gotze - €37 million

Talk about a controversial signing right off the bat. Gotze was the first trendsetter when it came to players swapping Bayern for Borussia Dortmund, eventually moving back the opposite way in 2016.

However, Gotze has never really looked the same player again and has struggled with a metabolic illness as well as injuries at the Westfalenstadion.

2. Thiago Alcantara - €25 million

What an inspired capture. The former Barcelona man is still tearing it up at the Allianz Arena six year years later, making over 200 appearances and winning 10 major honours.

3. Juan Bernat - €10 million

A shrewd capture from the Bavarians in 2014, Bernat featured in over 100 matches under Guardiola but eventually departed in the summer of 2018 after a decline in playing time.

The left-back secured a move to Paris Saint-Germain, scoring four goals and making 39 appearances during his debut season.

4. Pepe Reina - €3 million

Just three outings in the Bayern jersey, a red card against Augsburg and constantly acting as a back-up to Manuel Neuer meant that Reina's German adventure was doomed pretty quickly.

The Spaniard switched to Napoli - for whom he played on loan the year before - after a single season and is currently AC Milan's second 'keeper behind Gianluigi Donnarumma.

5. Medhi Benatia - €28 million

The Moroccan blew hot and cold at Bayern, eventually leaving for Juventus after 46 outings and two seasons at the club. He completed a move to Al-Duhail SC in the Qatari league in January.

6. Xabi Alonso - €9 million

Imagine signing Alonso for less than €10 million, beautiful scenes. The legendary midfielder was well past his best in 2014, but still provided a valuable asset to Bayern in the twilight of his career.

Over 100 outings in red, five major trophies and a handful of goals proved the perfect sendoff for the current manager of Real Sociedad B.

7. Sinan Kurt - €3 million

The first dud signing of the bunch. Kurt was in his teens when he arrived at Bayern, made only one appearance for the first team and was last seen at WSG Swarovski Tirol via Hertha Berlin.

8. Douglas Costa - €30 million

The Brazilian, who never really looked a Guardiola player, wasn't the next Franck Ribery that many fans were hoping for and scored just eight goals in 50 Bundesliga appearances.

And having spent the 2017-18 season on loan at Juventus, the Old Lady signed him on a permanent basis but goals have continued to be scarce at the Allianz Stadium.

9. Sven Ulreich - €3.5 million

With the departure of Reina, Guardiola needed a new back-up goalkeeper and Ulreich - who still resides with the German champions - was far happier with a smaller role than his predecessor.

10. Joshua Kimmich - €8.5 million

What an inspired capture this was. Despite having never played in the Bundesliga prior to his arrival, Kimmich was immediately thrown in the deep end and played 36 times in his debut season.

And across the half-decade since then, Kimmich has established himself as arguably the best right-back in the world. Trent Alexander-Arnold seems his only feasible rival.

11. Arturo Vidal - €37.5 million

A decently hefty fee for the time, but Vidal has always been a born winner and provided another steel vertebra in the Bayern spine for three seasons.

The 32-year-old continued his remarkable career with a 2018 move to Barcelona and has continued to be an important squad player at Camp Nou.

12. Kingsley Coman - €7 million

You get the feeling that Coman still hasn't reached his full potential, but it would be short-sighted to ignore the Frenchman's talent and he's scored 28 goals in the famous Bayern colours.

13. Serdar Tasci - €2.5 million

A strange loan capture from Spartak Moscow halfway through Guardiola's last season, the defender only made three appearances for the club despite an injury crisis in Bavaria,

Tasci eventually returned to Russia for two more seasons and was last seen at Istanbul Basaksehir FK after completing a summer transfer.

Guardiola is incredibly shrewd in the transfer window, it's hard to deny it.

When you consider the legendary coach brought the likes of Alcantara, Kimmich and Vidal to the Allianz Arena, Guardiola can only be seen as doing an admirable job on a reasonable budget.
