Arsenal are a mess right now.

There is no two ways about it, the Gunners are in the midst of yet another crisis and it's one that shows no time of ending anytime soon.

Sunday's 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace unearthed yet more negatives, with Granit Xhaka storming off the pitch and telling Arsenal fans to 'f**k off' as he was substituted.

Unai Emery's days at the club are numbered and the Spaniard's pragmatic approach to games is not the only issue within the squad right now.

According to the Telegraph, the Arsenal squad are struggling to understand why record signing Nicolas Pepe is constantly starting ahead of Mesut Ozil.

The latter has made just one Premier League appearance all season, while Pepe has been an ever-present of late.

A source at Arsenal said: “You’ve got to wonder who is making the decisions. Has the coach been told not to play Ozil or does he have a problem with the player?

“Probably a bit of both, but it is damaging the team because Arsenal are not creating a lot of chances and Ozil is clearly good enough to play in some games.

“You also have to wonder why Pepe is starting every game. He was an expensive signing for the club, so does Emery have to start him or does he want to?

“It may be that he is feeling pressure to do what the board wants, but he has to be strong and make his own decisions. It is creating a strange atmosphere within the squad because nobody is really sure what is going on.”

With Arsenal failing to create chances against smaller teams, the calls to reinstall Ozil are only intensifying.

The German is the most creative player in the Gunners squad, while Pepe is still yet to net a goal in the Premier League from open play in 10 attempts and has just two assists to his name.

However, the Ivorian has shown his worth at times with his electric dribbling and he would surely benefit from Ozil's vision and ability to create space for attackers.

The two should operate together, but Emery's insistence on an industrious midfield three against smaller teams is an experiment that continues to fail.

Fans are frustrated, players are confused and most of that boils down to one man - Emery.
