Arsenal endured a torrid afternoon on Sunday when they welcomed Crystal Palace to the Emirates for a Premier League clash.

Having raced into an early two-goal lead, the Gunners collapsed, surrendering their advantage and dropping yet more points at home.

The controversial VAR system disallowed an apparent winner for the north London side but incredibly, that was not the most controversial moment of the game.

That came when club captain Granit Xhaka reacted poorly to boo's and jeers as he made his from the field to be subbed off.

The Swiss midfielder told his own fans to 'f*** off' before ripping his shirt off and making his way straight down the tunnel.

Yes, perhaps the behaviour of the fans was unwarranted, but for an Arsenal captain to react in such a way was simply beyond the pale.

Many have called for him to be stripped of the captaincy but reports from within the dressing room suggest Xhaka has the full backing of the playing staff.

This has put manager Unai Emery in a frightfully difficult position as he could face a player revolt should he choose to punish the 27-year-old.

The situation at Arsenal is becoming increasingly toxic, and the latest report in The Sun isn't going to help one bit.

That is because they are reporting that Xhaka is flat out refusing to apologise to the fans for his actions on Sunday.

Per the report, Emery phoned Xhaka on Monday evening and did his best to persuade him to apologise, but the conversation came to nothing.

With the club having already opened a disciplinary inquiry into his his actions, it might not be the best idea to anger the fan base further.

However, Xhaka seems to be set in his ways, and now Emery has some extremely tough decisions to make.

Does he take the armband off Xhaka to get the fans back onside while losing the dressing room?

Or, does he throw his weight behind Xhaka, supporting his skipper while alienating the fans?

It's going to be an interesting couple of days.
