Marcus Rashford is the name on every Manchester United fan’s lips after his brace against Chelsea in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night.The 21-year-old, who has bounced back well in recent weeks after being subjected to heavy criticism from fans and pundits alike prior to the international break, scored both goals as United advanced to the Carabao Cup quarter-finals.His first came from the penalty spot, while his second was a world-class free-kick.Lots of United fans have been critical of Rashford’s ability from free-kicks, but the England forward showed exactly why Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has allowed him to continue taking set-pieces.His 35-yard rocket was on a par with some of the greatest free-kicks scored by any United player, past or present.

Rashford has now played 184 games for United and this will be remembered as one of his standout performances thanks to that epic free-kick.

And all was going well for the youngster until his post-match interview...

Rashford appeared to forget what competition he was playing in - much to the amusement of football fans on social media - revealing he was happy to ‘get the three points’ after being reminded that it’s his birthday on Thursday.

The interview on Sky Sports asked Rashford: “Marcus, congratulations, your birthday tomorrow - is that the best possible way to celebrate tonight?”

Rashford responded: “Erm, yeah, getting the three points is the way you want to start a day like tomorrow.”

Asked about his free-kick, Rashford was quoted by The Sun as saying: “To be honest, it was the balls. When we were training with them and we were shooting there was this up and down motion and they can go anywhere.

“Thankfully, today it went in the top corner. It is a positive day.

“You always step forward to take it and when the moment comes it is just about trying to be relaxed.

"Thankfully, today I was. It made the game a little bit easier for us but the second goal was the one that killed the game.”
