Blackpool manager Ian Holloway hit out at supporters who aimed chants in the direction of assistant referee Sian Massey at Bloomfield Road on Saturday.

Massey returned to the Premier League for the first time since she was the subject of sexist remarks surrounding Liverpool's win at Wolves last month. Those comments led to Andy Gray and Richards Keys losing their jobs at Sky Sports in the wake of the scandal.

Holloway said after the 1-1 draw against Aston Villa: "I didn't like some of the shouts. Is that funny? 'There is only one Andy Gray'. That's rude, you have got to forget about all of that and get on with things, haven't we. I think we should let things lie in the past. Did she do all right? Absolutely."

Aston Villa manager Gerard Houllier added: "She took the right decisions. I was confident in her. She is good at what she is doing."

Blackpool ended a run of five straight defeats with a stirring display after going a goal down after 10 minutes.

Darren Bent released Gabriel Agbonlahor on the left and he raced away before rounding Richard Kingson and firing a shot into the corner to give Villa the lead. Blackpool regrouped and equalised through Elliot Grandin four minutes later.

Villa were then reduced to 10 men in the 70th minute when Jean Makoun was given a straight red card after a challenge on DJ Campbell.

Holloway said: "The first 15 minutes was probably the worst since I have been here. They scored a brilliant goal on the break and that should have rocked us. But instead it stabilised us and my lads got back believing in themselves a little bit. We got an equaliser and I felt we would go on and win it.

"When Villa went down to 10 men it probably ruined it and I started panicking about their pace on the break. Some of it looked as though it was on fast-forward.

"We stuck in there, kept going, threw everything at them and unfortunately for us we have only got a point."
