In 1997, Michael Owen became the youngest goalscorer in Liverpool's history.

At the age of 17, Owen came off the bench against Wimbledon and netted in stoppage time to put his name in the record books.

That record held firm for 19 years, until Ben Woodburn netted in the FA Cup against Leeds.

However, scoring at such a young age doesn't guarantee a successful career.

We've decided to take a look at Liverpool's 15 youngest goal scorers, what happened to them and where they are now.

15. Steven Gerrard

First goal: Liverpool 4-1 Sheffield Wednesday (December 5, 1999)

Age: 19 years, six months, five days

Gerrard's first goal was a beauty. He drove from midfield and dribbled past a few players before firing the ball into the back of the net.

His playing days ended in 2016 and he has been Rangers manager since 2018. He's almost certain to become Liverpool boss at some point in the future.

14. Andre Wisdom
First goal: Young Boys 3-5 Liverpool (September 20, 2012)

Age: 19 years, four months, 11 days

Wisdom showed promise in his first season in the first-team and actually scored a header on his debut.

But he failed to progress and left for Derby in 2017, where he is today.

13. Jerome Sinclair
First goal: Exeter 2-2 Liverpool (January 8, 2016)

Age: 19 years, three months, 19 days

So much was expected of Sinclair. He is still Liverpool's youngest ever player having made his debut six days after his 16th birthday.

It took him three more years to score what was his only goal in a Reds shirt.

He left the club in 2016 for Watford after refusing to renew his contract and it's only been downhill since.

Now 23, he's spending the season on loan in the Eredivisie with VVV. He's yet to score in eight games for the club.

12. Jamie Redknapp
First goal: Liverpool 2-1 Chelsea (September 5, 1992)

Age: 19 years, two months, 11 days

Redknapp spent 12 seasons at the club before leaving in 2002. Injuries ravaged the latter days of his career and a retired from professional football in 2005 with Southampton.

He's now a regular fixture on Sky Sports working as a pundit.

11. Anthony Le Tallec
First goal: Liverpool 3-0 NK Olimpija (October 15, 2003)

Age: 19 years, 12 days

Le Tallec scored just once in a Liverpool shirt.

Since leaving permanently in 2008, he's been at seven separate clubs.

Now 35, he currently plays in the French fourth tier with Annecy FC.

10. Florent Sinama-Pongolle
First goal: Liverpool 3-1 Leeds (October 25, 2003)

Age: 19 years, five days

Sinama-Pongolle had more success at Liverpool than Le Tallec, but that wasn't really hard.

The Frenchman scored nine times for the Reds before leaving for Blackburn.

He went on to play for the likes of Atletico Madrid, Rostov and Chicago Fire.

He retired from football in the summer after a spell with Reunion club JS Saint-Pierroise.

9. Jamie Carragher

First goal: Liverpool 3-0 Aston Villa (January 18, 1997)

Age: 18 years, 11 months, 21 days

What happened to him, eh?

Carragher was a one-club man and will always be a Liverpool legend.

He's now a leading pundit on Sky Sports.

8. Trent Alexander-Arnold
First goal: Hoffenheim 1-2 Liverpool (August 15, 2017)

Age: 18 years, 10 months, eight days

Alexander-Arnold scored his first goal for the club just over two years ago. He's now arguably the best right-back in Europe.

7. Sheyi Ojo
First goal: Liverpool 3-0 Exeter (January 20, 2016)

Age: 18 years, seven months, 1 day

What a disappointment Ojo turned out to be. Ojo played 11 times for the club in the 2015/16 season, netting his only goal so far in a 3-0 win over Exeter.

He's since gone out on loan five times and is currently spending this season under Gerrard at Rangers.

The 22-year-old is still a Liverpool player but it's likely that won't be the case for much longer.

6. Robbie Fowler

First goal: Liverpool 2-1 Oldham (October 16, 1993)

Age: 18 years, six months, seven days

Fair to say Fowler fulfilled his potential.

He went on to score 183 goals for Liverpool across two spells.

His playing days ended in 2011 and he's since ventured into punditry and management.

Fowler is currently the manager of Australian side, Brisbane Roar.

5. Raheem Sterling

First goal: Liverpool 1-0 Reading (October 20, 2012)

Age: 17 years, 10 months, 12 days

Oh, what could have been.

Sterling didn't exactly hit the heights expected of him at Liverpool. Manchester City eventually signed him for £50m, a deal which seemed brilliant for the Reds at the time.

Sterling has since gone from strength-to-strength under Pep Guardiola and is now a contender for the Ballon d'Or award. Liverpool will wish he was still their player.

4. Ki-Jana Hoever

First goal: MK Dons 0-2 Liverpool (September 25, 2019)

Age: 17 years, eight months, seven days

Hoever is one of the most promising youngsters at Liverpool. He'll be looking to break into the first team in the next couple of years.

3. Jordan Rossiter
First goal: Liverpool 2-2 Middlesbrough (September 23, 2014)

Age: 17 years, five months, 30 days

Rossiter scored a lovely goal from 30 yards on his debut But that was as good as it got for him at his boyhood club.

He made just four more appearances before leaving for Rangers in 2016.

He's struggled to make the grade in Scotland, having made just 16 appearances in four seasons.

Now 22, he's spending this season under Joey Barton at Fleetwood Town.

2. Michael Owen
First goal: Wimbledon 2-1 Liverpool (May 6, 1997)

Age: 17 years, four months, 22 days

Owen was handed his debut in the penultimate game of the 1996/97 Premier League season, coming on as a second half substitute. It didn't take him long to open his account for the club.

He quickly became one of the best strikers in the world but injuries began to take it's toll and he broke Liverpool hearts when he left for Real Madrid in 2004.

Many Liverpool fans then branded him a traitor when he joined Manchester United in 2009.

Owen has ventured into punditry since his playing days ended in 2013 and can be found regularly on BT Sport.

1. Ben Woodburn

First goal: Liverpool 2-0 Leeds (November 29, 2016)

Age: 17 years, 1 month, 14 days

Woodburn is yet to fulfil his potential.

He's currently out on loan at Oxford United and is struggling to make his mark in League One. The Welshman has scored just once in 11 games for the U's.

Now 20, it seems unlikely he will ever be a success at Liverpool.

While most on the list went on to be a success, the likes of Sinama-Pongolle, Ojo and Le Tallec all failed to live up to the hype.
