One of the surprising moments of WWE Crown Jewel was just how short the Brock Lesnar vs Cain Velasquez match was for the WWE Championship.

Brock Lesnar vs Cain Velasquez opened Crown Jewel last night, but before WWE fans could get themselves settled into the match, it was already over.

Lesnar defeated Velasquez in just two minutes and ten seconds in a very MMA-style match that had a submission finish.

After spending the last few weeks promoting Lesnar vs Velasquez as one of the main matches on Crown Jewel, it was over in a flash.

According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, via Wrestling Inc, it was always the plan to have Lesnar vs Velasquez as a short match due to an injury to Velasquez.

Back before he signed with WWE, it was reported that he would likely undergo knee surgery before making any commitment to a pro wrestling company.

Cain's knee in such bad shape, that the belief is that he needs knee surgery now, but there's no word yet on when he will have it. This is why nothing really happened in his match at Crown Jewel.

He's still scheduled to team up with Rey Mysterio to face Andrade and Drew McIntyre at the live event in Mexico City on November 30.

Velaquez signed a lucrative, three-year deal with WWE, but as of writing, it's currently unclear if he will be used on a regular basis like Ronda Rousey was, or if it will be on a special appearance basis like Lesnar.

The former UFC fighter wasn't assigned to either Raw or SmackDown in the recent WWE Draft, and this was most likely because they knew his knee surgery was on the horizon.

It's too early to give a verdict on Velasquez' wrestling, as his WWE debut was not a particularly impressive, but then again, his match only went for just over two minutes.

If anything, he's on the back foot as he was presented as Lesnar's equal, only to be beaten in mere minutes. With his three-year deal with WWE, there's plenty of time for him to turn that around.
