What a crazy night it was at Anfield on Wednesday.

The Carabao Cup certainly isn’t high up on the list of Jurgen Klopp’s priorities with the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup and Club World Cup all above it in the pecking order.

And his team selection against Arsenal suggested that as he handed home debuts to five players - Caoimhin Kelleher, Neco Williams, Sepp van den Berg, Harvey Elliott and Rhian Brewster.

They were joined on the pitch by more experienced players such as James Milner, Adam Lallana and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

But it looked as though Liverpool would be crashing out of the competition after trailing 3-1, 4-2 and 5-4.

But Liverpool just don’t know how to lose right now and Divock Origi’s 94th-minute strike made it 5-5 and forced the tie into penalties.

Five perfect penalties from the home followed with 19-year-old Curtis Jones having the honour of sending Liverpool through to the quarter-finals.

But immediately after the match, Klopp insisted that he would be willing to forfeit the competition unless a suitable date for their last-eight clash could be arranged.

Liverpool will be in Qatar during the same week Liverpool’s quarter-final against Aston Villa is scheduled to take place.

"If they don't find a place for us, an appropriate place, not 3am on Christmas Day, then we don't play it," said Klopp.

You wouldn’t blame the German if part of him wishes his side had just lost to Arsenal.

In fact, judging by his reaction when Origi made it 5-5 in injury-time, he did actually want his them to lose.

Inside Anfield revealed footage of Klopp’s reaction as Origi’s volley found the back of the net - and it wasn’t the usual passionate celebration you’d expect from him.

Instead, he tapped his head in disbelief with a wry smile on his face.

And Liverpool fans think his reaction proved that he maybe didn’t want his side going through to the next round.
