The prospect of Jose Mourinho becoming Arsenal manager is no longer a laughing matter.

Countless Arsenal fans are calling for Unai Emery's head after a torrid start to the 2019-20 season and it looks highly unlikely that the Gunners will renew the Spaniard's contract even if he survives.

But as we all know, sacking a manager without a rough idea of a replacement is always risky and Mourinho seems the most obvious successor if Emery finds himself on the chopping block.

Say what you like about Mourinho's ropey final seasons at Manchester United and Chelsea in recent years; the 'Special One' knows how to win trophies when the chips are down.

Here at GIVEMESPORT, we've already predicted eight things that would happen if Mourinho came to the Emirates Stadium, but we want to go one step further and forecast some cold, hard statistics.

Mourinho at Arsenal???

And we're in luck because the team at football.london have used Football Manager 2019 to predict how this season would play out if Mourinho, not Emery, was in the hot-seat.

The only discrepancy with the simulation is that the exact fixture pattern couldn't be recreated but - aside from that - it's our best chance to study this crazy, hypothetical scenario.

From a return to the Champions League and even FA Cup glory, it makes for interesting reading as well as further evidence for those campaigning for Mourinho. Take a look at the breakdown here:

Mourinho stamps his authority

Astonishingly, the first thing that Mourinho insisted upon was the removal of director of football Raul Sanllehi and he got his wish, giving the Portuguese complete control over Arsenal's transfers.

Arsenal's front three come to life

Arsenal's stellar attacking triumvirate hasn't really gelled under Emery, but even Nicolas Pepe was flying on all cylinders with Mourinho barking orders from the technical area.

Alexander Lacazette led the goal-scoring charts with 26 strikes, while Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang bagged a healthy 21 and Pepe finished his debut campaign with 17 goals and 12 assists.

Memorable league results

Mourinho turned the Emirates Stadium into an absolute fortress, securing wins over Tottenham, Manchester United and even champions Manchester City in north London.

But perhaps Mourinho's magnum opus came on his return to Stamford Bridge, running away with a 2-0 victory courtesy of Mesut Ozil's double.

Bernd Leno, Kieran Tierney, Sokratis Papastathopoulos, David Luiz, Hector Bellerin, Lucas Torreira, Dani Ceballos, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Mesut Ozil, Nicolas Pepe and Alexandre Lacazette.

Premier League finish

It was a dream first season for Mourinho as he guided Arsenal to second place, finishing just two points behind Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool and three points above Pep Guardiola's 2018/19 champions.

The Gunners had the second best offensive record in the league, kept the third most clean sheets, only Callum Wilson could outscore Lacazette and Ozil chipped in with a hearty 10 assists.

Europa League heartbreak

Mourinho might have exacted revenge on Chelsea in the Premier League, but it was another one of his former teams that eliminated Arsenal from the Europa League at the semi-final stage.

United comfortably progressed to the final with an aggregate score of 4-0, impressively winning 2-0 at the Emirates Stadium thanks to Paul Pogba and Marcus Rashford strikes.

Ending with FA Cup glory

But, come on, this is Mourinho we're talking about and he inevitably won silverware during his first season at Arsenal. It came in the form of the FA Cup.

Arsenal dished out more embarrassment on City, comfortably winning 2-0 under the Wembley arch courtesy of goals from Aubameyang and Lacazette either side of half time.
