It's no secret that Real Madrid have struggled to replace Cristiano Ronaldo

The Portuguese superstar departed the Bernabeu in 2018, swapping Los Blancos for Juventus after nine very successful years.

He was always going to be missed because the forward almost guaranteed a ridiculous 50 goals a season, but it was thought that the likes of Karim Benzema and Gareth Bale could fill the hole.

That didn't happen though. Madrid finished the last campaign without a major trophy, coming third in La Liga and crashing out of the Champions League in the round of 16.

Much of their troubles came from failing to score enough goals - and to an extent, that has continued into this season too.

In fact, comparing Real's goalscoring record with and without Ronaldo shows just how phenomenal the five-time Ballon d'Or winner really is.

Between 2009 and 2018, the Spanish club played 519 games and scored in all but 46 of them - failing to find the net in just 8.86% of matches.

Yet since Ronaldo has left, Madrid have played 71 times and failed to score in 17 - which is 23.94% of their matches.

For one player to make that much of an impact is almost unheard of - but make no mistake, Ronaldo's departure has really rocked Real.

The club's current crop of attacking talent isn't exactly stepping up either.

Benzema is the top scorer this season with a respectable seven goals from 14 matches, but Toni Kroos, Casemiro and Sergio Ramos are the next highest scoring players.

None of those are forwards. As it stands, Eden Hazard, Luka Jovic and Vinicius Jr have only netted once each so far.

If Madrid are going to challenge for silverware this season, they need to start scoring goals and the attackers in the team need to start filling the void that Ronaldo's departure left.
