FIFA: 17 current players who will become ICONS in the future

Name a better feeling than packing an ICON on FIFA Ultimate Team. We’ll wait.

For those who aren’t aware, ICONS allow you to add some of the biggest legends in football to your squad.

EA Sports added Zinedine Zidane, Andrea Pirlo, Didier Drogba and more to their stable of ICONS for FIFA 20, which already included the likes of Ronaldinho, Diego Maradona and George Best.

It’s an opportunity for gamers to remember some of the greatest players to have ever played the game.

Introduced for FIFA 14 (they were called ‘Legends’ back then), they have been a decent addition to Ultimate Team.

You know you’ve had a good career when EA Sports honour you with an ICON card.

So, which current players can we expect to receive one in the future?

GIVEMESPORT has picked out 17 players who will certainly have one after what they’ve achieved in the game.

1. Lionel Messi | ICON rating: 99

The GOAT. Messi’s ICON card will be absolutely ridiculous and will be extremely coveted.

FC Barcelona v Juventus - UEFA Champions League

2. Cristiano Ronaldo | ICON rating: 99

Not much needs to be said about the five-time Ballon d’Or winner. He’s a superstar whose in-game stats as an ICON will be insane.

Juventus v US Sassuolo - Serie A

3. Andres Iniesta | ICON rating: 96

One of the greatest midfielders to ever grace a football pitch, Iniesta is deserving of a highly-rated ICON card.

Barcelona v Villarreal - La Liga

4. Sergio Ramos | ICON rating: 96

A World Cup, European Championship and Champions League winner, Ramos can expect to be awarded a dominant ICON card.

Real Madrid v Liverpool - UEFA Champions League Final

5. Gianluigi Buffon | ICON rating: 95

Buffon is in the conversation for the greatest goalkeeper in history.

He’s a five-time winner of the IFFHS World’s Best Goalkeeper award and his ICON card will be very tough to beat.

6. Xavi | ICON rating: 95

A key component of Pep Guardiola’s brilliant Barcelona team, watching Xavi play football was a real joy.

FC Barcelona v Sevilla FC - La Liga

7. Zlatan Ibrahimovic | ICON rating: 94

Few players can say they have succeeded in so many countries.

The Swedish striker has flourished in the Netherlands, Italy, France, England and the United States.

8. Dani Alves | ICON rating: 94

Alves won the 43rd trophy of his career at the 2019 Copa America.

He’s comfortably the most decorated player in the history of the game.

Brazil v Peru: Final - Copa America Brazil 2019

9. Neymar | ICON rating: 94

There was a time when Neymar was the third-best player in the world behind Messi and Ronaldo.

His list of accomplishments includes winning league titles in Spain and France, winning an Olympic gold medal, and being Brazil’s third-highest goalscorer at the age of 27.

Brazil v Colombia

10. Manuel Neuer | ICON rating: 94

Neuer’s legacy will extend to more than just trophies. He reshaped the goalkeeper position by adopting the ‘sweeper-keeper’ approach.

Tottenham Hotspur v Bayern Muenchen: Group B - UEFA Champions League

11. Robert Lewandowski | ICON rating: 93

The best striker of the 21st century?

All Lewandowski knows about is scoring goals.

Tottenham Hotspur v Bayern Muenchen: Group B - UEFA Champions League

12. Luis Suarez | ICON rating: 93

With more than 400 career goals to his name, Suarez, like Lewandowski, can be considered one of the best strikers in history.

Barcelona v Liverpool - UEFA Champions League Semi Final: First Leg

13. Bastian Schweinsteiger | ICON rating: 93

Joachim Low once described Schweinsteiger as 'The Brain'.

Intelligent, tenacious and technically-astute, the German had all the tools of a great midfielder.

Germany v Argentina: 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil Final

14. Wayne Rooney | ICON rating: 93

As Manchester United and England’s all-time leading goalscorer, there’s no question that Rooney will one day receive an ICON card.

England v Estonia - UEFA EURO 2016 Qualifier

15. Sergio Aguero | ICON rating: 92

Aguero has scored 241 goals in 348 appearances for Manchester City, where he will go down as a club legend.

Chiellini has all the skills you want in a centre-back. A true leader, he’s mastered the position.

Club Atletico de Madrid v Juventus - UEFA Champions League Round of 16: First Leg

17. Fernando Torres | ICON rating: 92

Torres once held the World Cup, European Championship, Champions League and Europa League trophies simultaneously for a brief period in 2013.

Just think about that for a moment.

At his peak, he was a nightmare for defenders. Just ask Nemanja Vidic.

Spain v Italy - UEFA EURO 2012 Final
