Saturday was a pretty crazy day in the Premier League title race.

Both Manchester City and Liverpool were 1-0 down against Southampton and Aston Villa respectively.

And yet both sides came away with all three points thanks to late winners.

Kyle Walker won it for City in the 86th-minute. One minute later, Liverpool equalised at Villa Park before Sadio Mane’s 94th-minute winner.

It means Liverpool preserved their six-point lead at the top of the table ahead of the huge clash against City on Sunday.

The two clubs have developed something of a fierce rivalry in recent years. Of course, last season’s cat and mouse title race served only to increase that rivalry.

But the hatred really started during the 2017/18 season.

Liverpool ended City’s unbeaten record in the Premier League, beating them 4-3 in a barnstorming match at Anfield.

Three months later, City returned to face Liverpool in the Champions League quarter-finals. But before they reached Anfield, their team coach was battered by objects as Kopites ‘greeted’ the team buses upon their arrival.

It left Pep Guardiola absolutely fuming and the club requiring to fetch a new coach for their journey home. It also probably contributed to the fact they were 3-0 down inside 31 minutes.

The absence of any arrests in the following investigations also angered City.

While City’s bus was smashed, the scenes when Liverpool’s coach arrived were pretty spectacular.

With Sunday’s clash being so huge it seems Liverpool fans are preparing for another ‘coach greeting.’

A social media post is doing the rounds that is asking supporters to line the streets around Anfield and bring ‘pyro, pints, flags and banners’

Liverpool fans will be hoping it can inspire them to victory over City like it did in 2017.

It’s great to see them greet their own coach with such passion but let’s hope there are no unsavoury scenes when City’s coach arrives.
