It's been a while since any Philippe Coutinho updates have spread back to England.

At the back end of his solitary full season at Barcelona, it seemed a week wouldn't go by without the Blaugrana's fans or the Spanish media berating his performances.

In truth, Coutinho wasn't your typical flop at Camp Nou, but he could never recreate the form that made him such a top player at Liverpool nor justify his £142 million transfer fee.

As a result, going on loan to Bayern Munich looked like the perfect opportunity to Coutinho to start afresh and he made it very clear that he doesn't seem himself playing for Barcelona again.

“In Barcelona, a lot of things did not turn out as we had imagined," the 27-year-old explained. "But this is now history. I hope to stay here for a long time and win many titles.

All quiet on Coutinho

"I didn't have any doubts when the call from Bayern came in. But when they showed me their project I wanted to come straight away."

So, how have things been going for him in Bayern? In a nutshell, not particularly great.

It seems a long time ago that Coutinho dropped that superb display against FC Koln, bagging his first goal in the process, and the cause for praise has most certainly dried up.

Hamann slams his performance

But his loan spell reached a new low during Bayern's humiliating 5-1 defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt, which ultimately resulted in the sacking of manager Niko Kovac.

There wasn't a single Bayern player who could have held their head high after the game, but Coutinho came in for particular criticism from former Liverpool man Dietmar Hamann.

Earlier in the season, according to AS, the German had pointed out: "He's on loan for a year, played some games with Bayern and for me you can't seen an improvement in his performance."

Yet his criticism reached a new level after the Frankfurt game, where Hamann went as far as labelled the Brazilian as 'invisible.'

The player-turned-pundit added: "What annoys me is when you see this player is not prudent. If he loses a ball he can be frightened and anxious during the 90 minutes."
