Liverpool's Carabao Cup final quarter-final against Aston Villa has been confirmed for Tuesday 17th December.

The Reds were already scheduled to play their Club World Cup semi final in Qatar on Wednesday 18th December.

That means Jurgen Klopp will be fielding two different teams in two different continents within 24 hours.

Liverpool posted a statement on their club website following the news.

"We will be utilising two playing squads simultaneously, with one squad participating in the FIFA Club World Cup in Qatar and another in the Carabao Cup," their statement read.

"The club would like to take this opportunity to underline that while this is not an ideal scenario, it is an outcome which was arrived at with the best interests of the competition, our fellow clubs and ourselves as the sole motivating factor.

"We would like to thank the EFL for their efforts to accommodate us and we can confirm alternative dates were discussed, but ultimately none were considered suitable without compromising the scheduling of the competition itself or placing an undue strain on our playing staff."

Of course, Klopp is not going to be able to field his strongest XIs for both fixtures.

Given the Club World Cup is a more prestigious trophy, it is likely he will bring his first team with him to Qatar.

That means that the Liverpool team that will play against Villa is likely going to be made up of players from the club's youth team. Assistant manager Pepijn Lijnders is also likely to be in charge.

If Liverpool are to make the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup, they will be counting on the likes of Rhian Brewster, Harvey Elliott and Jones.
