Gabriel Jesus has just taken one of the worst penalties of the year for Man City vs Atalanta

Gabriel Jesus took one of the worst penalties you'll see this season against Atalanta on Wednesday night.

The spot-kick was awarded after Raheem Sterling's free-kick was blocked by a hand inside the box and Manchester City's striker stepped up after VAR confirmed the decision.

But he shouldn't have bothered.

Jesus was far too relaxed and strolled up to the ball with an air of arrogance, before passing it well wide of the right post. Check it out below:

Absolutely terrible. The Brazilian instantly knew just how bad it was, bending over with his hands on his knees as Atalanta's goalkeeper went behind his goal to collect the ball.

Jesus' attempt has got to be up there with the worst penalties we've seen this year.

Even Gary Lineker tweeted to suggest it was 'one of the worst penalties you’ll see'. Brutal.

At the time, Pep Guardiola's side were 1-0 up and went into half-time with the lead thanks to Sterling, who won the spot-kick.

But Jesus' miss came back to haunt them when Atalanta came back after the break.

Mario Pasalic met an inch-perfect cross from Alejandro Dario Gomez to head in the equaliser after 49 minutes.

City failed to find a second goal at the San Siro and had to settle for a point - handing Atalanta their first of the group stage.

In more crazy scenes, City goalkeeper Claudio Bravo was sent off in the 82nd minute and Kyle Walker had to play 10 minutes in goal.

You just love to see it.

Despite the draw, Atalanta are still rock bottom of the group, while the Premier League champions are still very comfortable at the top.

Man City now have 10 points and a draw in the other fixture in Group C means Dinamo Zagreb and Shakhtar Donetsk are level on five.

Despite Jesus' shocking penalty arguably costing them three points, Guardiola's side are expected to glide into the knockout stages.
