Wolves are on the brink of qualifying for the knockout stages of the Europa League after a late win over Slovan Bratislava.

Raul Jimenez’s 92nd minute header sealed a 1-0 win and left them on nine points after four matches.

However, just days after Andre Gomes suffered a sickening leg injury during Everton’s Premier League clash with Tottenham, there was another serious incident at the Molineux.

Late in the second half, Jimenez attempted a bicycle kick inside the penalty area only to catch defender Kenan Bajric in the head.

Bajric was knocked out cold and was treated on the pitch for 10 minutes.

Bratislava’s goalkeeper immediately put his teammate into a recovery position to prevent him from swallowing his tongue.

His quick-thinking may have saved his life.

After the match, manager Jan Kozak admitted the injury is “serious.”

"He is conscious but he has concussion," said Kovak.

"At the moment it looks like a bad injury, quite serious. One of the home players kicked him in the head.

"He is not going home with us tonight, he is staying here in hospital to be observed."

Jimenez was booked for his role in the injury and, after scoring a winner in injury-time, apologised to the camera during his celebration.

And the Mexican gave his best wishes to the opponent.

"It is difficult for all of us," Jimenez told BT Sport after the game. "I don't know what to say. I hope he recovers well."

We also hope Bajric’s makes a full recovery.
