One of the best storylines in WWE this year has been Kofi Kingston's rise to the top and his WWE Championship reign, but it all came to an abrupt end last month.

Kofi Kingston's reign as WWE Champion came to an end when he faced Brock Lesnar on SmackDown's debut episode on Fox at the start of October.

When the match was booked, most fans knew Kingston's time as champion was coming to an end, but they had hoped he would have a great match with Lesnar to celebrate his time as champion.

Unfortunately, that wasn't to be. In fact, it was the complete opposite, as The Beast was able to defeat him in just nine seconds. WWE then swiftly moved on for a feud between Lesnar and Cain Velasquez.

Speaking to Alex McCarthy of talkSPORT, Kingston revealed how he felt about the way his WWE Championship reign came to an end last month.

The New Day member stated he was disappointed his title reign came to an end so quickly after so long.

He said: "It was a bit of a disappointment to go out there and have it go so quickly on the biggest night of SmackDown. To have it end like that, yeah it was a little bit disheartening, but it is what it is."

During his time as champion, Kingston rarely lost any matches, defeating some of the biggest names in WWE such as Randy Orton, Samoa Joe, Daniel Bryan, and Kevin Owens.

His rise to the top came thanks to fan support at the start of the year and a very good Elimination Chamber outing, and the start of his WWE title reign was memorable too as it occurred at WrestleMania.

However, many fans feel let down by WWE for the way Kingston's title reign came to an end, and how quickly it was brushed aside in favour of a part-timer and someone who had just joined the company.

Kingston has now moved away from the WWE title picture and now looks set to be more focused on the tag team division alongside Big E with The New Day.

Many fans will be keeping their fingers crossed he doesn't have to wait long for his next WWE title shot.
