No matter which way you look at it, Sunday's clash between Liverpool and Manchester City is huge.

While the title won't be won or lost at Anfield, the result could have a significant impact on the destination of the Premier League trophy come May.

A Liverpool win and the gap is nine points. A City win, and it's suddenly down to three points. In truth, both sides may well take a draw if it was offered to them right now.

One thing is for sure, it will be an enthralling battle between the two best sides in England - if not the world.

Just one point from a combined 197 separated Liverpool and City last season and it looks as though it's going to be equally as close at the top of the standings this time around.

But which team comes out on top in a combined XI?

We know they both possess incredible players but how do they fit into the same line-up?

Well, GIVEMESPORT have tried their best to come up with the best possible combined XI featuring Liverpool and City stars.

We only considered players that are fit enough to play on Sunday. So that means we couldn't pick the likes of Aymeric Laporte, Joel Matip or Leroy Sane.

It was tough and we had to leave several world-class players out. But here is what we came up with:

GK | Alisson

Both Liverpool and City have world-class Brazilian goalkeepers. However, Alisson gets the nod over Ederson for the national side so who are we to argue?

RB | Trent Alexander-Arnold

The 21-year-old is some talent. In truth, he's probably too good with the ball to be playing right-back and will probably move into midfield as he gets older. He's above Kyle Walker in the England right-back pecking order and we agree with Gareth Southgate.

CB | Virgil van Dijk

The best centre-back in world football? Quite possibly. Liverpool beat City to the signature of Van Dijk back in January 2018 and it's been £75 million very well spent.

CB | Fernandinho

We were struggling for options, to be honest. With Matip and Laporte ruled out of Sunday's clash, we had to seek an alternative. Nicolas Otamendi? John Stones? Dejan Lovren? Joe Gomez? Nope, we've gone for a midfielder in Fernandinho. Guardiola has resorted to fielding him at centre-back this season and, alongside Van Dijk, we're sure he'll cope just fine.

LB | Andy Robertson

Robertson has established himself as one of the best left-backs in world football. Over at City, Oleksandr Zinchenko isn't fit, Benjamin Mendy is inconsistent while Angelino played in that position last weekend against Southampton.

DM | Fabinho

Fabinho is so important for Liverpool right now that Jurgen Klopp refused to play him against Aston Villa last week in the fear that he'd pick up a fifth yellow card that would mean he'd be suspended for this match.

CM | Kevin de Bruyne

The best midfielder in the Premier League? Quite possibly. The Belgian has started this season in incredible form, registering nine assists already - five more than any other player. If Liverpool keep him quiet, they stand a fantastic chance to win the match.

CM | Bernardo Silva

With David Silva set to leave the club in the summer, City have a ready-made replacement in Bernardo. The Portuguese had played in the front three at times for City this season but is best-suited as a midfielder.

LW | Raheem Sterling

Sterling gets the nod over Mohamed Salah - something that will no doubt annoy Liverpool fans. The 24-year-old has improved dramatically since swapping Liverpool for City back in 2015. Sterling will receive a hostile reception at Anfield but he returns as, arguably, the best player in the league at the moment. He's notched seven league goals so far - more than any other Liverpool player.

RW | Sadio Mane

Mane now seems to have overtaken Salah in terms of importance to Liverpool. So much so that Lionel Messi opted for Mane as his No.1 when voting for FIFA Men's Player of the Year. Even Pep Guardiola is trying to get in Mane's head before the clash by labelling him as a 'diver'.

ST | Sergio Aguero

Aguero has rotated with Gabriel Jesus this season but the Argentine is still one of the best strikers in world football. Only Jamie Vardy has scored more than him in the league and, although Roberto Firmino is crucial to this Liverpool side, Aguero just edges it thanks to his goalscoring record.
