Women's Sports: UEFA Women's Champions League set for exciting quarterfinal round

Olympique Lyonnais v FC Barcelona - UEFA Women's Champions League Final

The remaining draws for the UEFA Women’s Champions League have taken place earlier today, beginning with the quarterfinals.

The first tie drawn is arguably the most exciting of the round as Atletico Madrid and FC Barcelona go head-to-head.

This is Atletico’s first appearance in the QF stages after beating Manchester City in a second consecutive season to progress in the competition. For Barcelona however, the quarterfinals are no stranger to them as they embark on their fifth appearance at this stage in a row – coming off the back of last season when they made it all the way to the final.

Elsewhere, the reigning Champions take on Bayern Munich who have only ever reached the semi-final before – a far cry from Lyon’s six titles.

Glasgow City will have their work cut out for them as they face German champions Wolfsburg who have won the title twice before, the latest back in 2014.

Finally, English champions Arsenal will face PSG in what will be their 13th quarterfinal after five long seasons without European football. With both teams stacked in the attack, it could be a tie decided on defensive ability.

The ties will be played on the 24th/25th March, the second leg coming on the 1st/2nd of April.

In the semi-finals, the winners of QF4 take on QF2 which could potentially end up in an Arsenal v Lyon semi-final fixture.

The second tie will be between the winners of QF1 and QF2 and once again could provide a match-up between FC Barcelona and Wolfsburg, seeing Caroline Graham Hansen returning to her former club for the first time.

Semi-final ties will be played on the 21st/22nd April with the second leg commencing 1st/2nd May.
