Mesut Ozil's stats during the second-half of Arsenal's 2-0 loss to Leicester

A few weeks ago, it looked as though Mesut Ozil may have played his final match for Arsenal.

Unai Emery continually left the German out of matchday squads and, despite Arsenal’s poor results, it looked as though there was no way back for Ozil.

That was until a positive performance in the Carabao Cup against Liverpool appeared to convince Emery that he could trust him again.

Days afterwards, he played 90 minutes against Wolves in the Premier League and was once again named in the starting line-up for Arsenal’s trip to Leicester.

Ozil remained on the pitch for the whole match but he can’t really claim to have played 90 minutes during the 2-0 loss.

That’s because stats have emerged of Ozil’s performance after half-time - and they make for pretty grim reading.

They were:

    • 2 passes into the box
    • 0 successful take-ons
    • 0 successful crosses
    • 0 chances created
    • 0 through balls
    • 0 fouls won
    • 0 shots

Oh dear.

Ozil may find himself out of the squad if he drops another disasterclass like that again.

Gooners have been calling for Emery to play Ozil all season but they might realise the World Cup winner may not actually be the answer. There are deeper problems within this Arsenal squad and Ozil isn’t going to solve them all.

Of course, it would help if he completed at least one take-on, cross, created a chance, attempted a through ball, won a foul or had a shot in 45 minutes.
