Lionel Messi was at it again last night.

The Barcelona star scored a hat-trick as his side beat Celta Vigo 4-1 in La Liga.

But this wasn't any old hat-trick. The Argentine's three goals all came from set-pieces.

He scored two free-kicks and one penalty - that's pretty rare.

Yet, when it comes to Messi, very little surprises us anymore. He's been so good, for so, so long.

In fact, his greatness was reaffirmed again on Saturday night, as the Barca star hit another incredible milestone.

With a hat-trick against Celta, Messi took his 2019 goal haul to 40, meaning he's now hit that number for 11 consecutive calendar years.

Unbelievable. Check out a breakdown of his goals from each year below:

2009: 41
2010: 60
2011: 59
2012: 91 (Yes, 91)
2013: 45
2014: 58
2015: 52
2016: 59
2017: 54
2018: 51
2019: 40 and counting

As you can probably guess, Messi is the only active player in the world to hit 40 goals in 11 consecutive years. Another incredible record for the G.O.A.T.

ANALYSIS
GIVEMESPORT'S Ollie Browning says:

We're running out of words to describe Lionel Messi. It seemed almost inevitable he would hit 40 goals this year, it was only a matter of time.

But the Argentine did it in brilliant style on Saturday night.

His first free-kick was curled into the right side of the goal, out of the 'keepers reach, to make it 2-1 to Barcelona.

Messi's second set-piece was almost identical - it came from a very similar position and went into the same spot of the goal.

To score one free-kick is impressive enough, but to have the audacity to beat the same 'keeper twice in one game, with the exact same finish, is almost laughable.

His penalty wasn't bad either - proving Messi really can do it all.

The greatest of all-time? It's hard to argue with that.
