We seriously need to start putting Robert Lewandowski in the Ballon d'Or conversation

Robert Lewandowski has caught a lot of attention for his very impressive start to the season.

The Bayern Munich striker is on a record-breaking run, having scored in every Bundesliga and Champions League game so far.

Just a reminder, we're in NOVEMBER. So that's simply astonishing.

His latest double came in a 4-0 win against Borussia Dortmund on Saturday evening in Der Klassiker - arguably the biggest game of the German season so far.

But the Pole's fine form stretches back much further than the beginning of the 2018/19 campaign. In fact, he's been unplayable all year.

So, surely it's time to put Lewandowski in the conversation to win the Ballon d'Or? Let's check out some of his stats.

In the calendar year of 2019, he's scored a huge 48 times and no one in Europe has netted more.

Lionel Messi is his closest challenger with 45, while Ajax's Dusan Tadic has 37.

As mentioned above, Lewandowski's record this season alone is simply superb, scoring 23 goals in 18 games.

Lewandowski's record this season insane

16 goals in Bundesliga puts him in pole position to land the league's Golden Boot, ahead of the likes of Timo Werner and Rouwen Hennings.

Only Salzburg sensations Erling Haaland has scored more times in the Champions League than Lewandowski so far - with Bayern's striker netting six already, while Haaland is just ahead on seven.

It's very possible we'll see the Pole win both the Bundesliga and Champions League Golden Boots come May.

But if he continues at this rate, Lewandowski could have aspirations of winning the European Golden Shoe next year as well - he missed out on that to Messi last season.

Lewandowski is leading the Bundesliga and could finish UCL top scorer

At his current rate, Lewandowski is not just on course to eclipse his best Bayern season for goals - 43 in 2016-17. Instead, he could fly past the 50 goal mark and perhaps make it as far as 60.

Only the legendary Gerd Muller has done that for the club before.

On an individual goalscoring level then, Lewandowski is almost unmatched. And he's helping his side win trophies as well.

The 2018/19 season saw Bayern finish top of Bundesliga while scooping the German Cup and the German Super Cup too. Domestically, they were unstoppable.

Lewandowski's goals helped Bayern to silverware

With Lewandowski in fine form, it's not out of the question to suggest they could win the Champions League this season - and that would be a big achievement.

But ahead of December's Ballon d'Or ceremony, we should focus just on the striker himself, because he very much deserves to be in the conversation for football's greatest individual prize this year.
