Chris Jericho thinks the Inner Circle has the potential to be bigger than the nWo

Chris Jericho's Inner Circle faction ha only been around in AEW for a couple of weeks, but it's already receiving comparisons to one of the most dominant factions in the history of wrestling, the nWo.

AEW fans were introduced to The Inner Circle, which features Jericho, Sammy Guevara, Jake Hager, Santana and Ortiz, during the first-ever episode of AEW Dynamite at the start of October.

Since then, they've been a dominant force in AEW and they look set to be a main feature of AEW programming while Jericho is still AEW World Champion.

Jericho extended his reign as AEW World Champion at Full Gear this weekend, defeating challenger Cody Rhodes via referee stoppage.

With so much hype around the stable already, many are already comparing it to WCW's iconic nWo group from the Monday Night Wars in the 1990s.

Speaking to the media after his Full Gear match, Jericho was asked about the Inner Circle/nWo comparisons, to which he said he believes his group could become even bigger than one of wrestling's most iconic factions.

He said, via Wrestling Inc: "The nWo was 22 years ago, but the difference is this, the original nWo was comprised of three, legit main event superstars, guys who had main evented WrestleMania.

"Inner Circle is based around my genius, my ideas, and already the other four members have become bigger stars than they ever were anywhere else, so that's the difference.

"We're building the Inner Circle right off the bat and week one we had the hottest faction, possibly in the history of the business, and people didn't even know who these guys were.

"Now they know who they are. Give us another two, three, four months and there's no doubt in my mind we will go down as the great faction in wrestling history."

It's unclear as to who Jericho's next challenger for the AEW World title will be, as the angle following his match at Full Gear set up a feud between Cody Rhodes and his now-former friend, MJF.

The Inner Circle still has a long way to go before they match what the nWo was able to achieve in wrestling, but many people believe they're on the right path.
