Pep Guardiola knows his Manchester City side now have a mountain to climb in order to win this season’s Premier League title following Sunday’s 3-1 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield.The revered Catalan coach watched on as his side were outplayed by the Jurgen Klopp’s team, who extended their lead at the top of the table to eight points.City, meanwhile, find themselves nine points behind Liverpool in fourth place after 12 games, leaving Guardiola with plenty to think about during the international break.The reigning Premier League champions found themselves 2-0 down after 13 minutes following goals from Fabinho and Mohamed Salah.Sadio Mane then made it 3-0 after half-time, before Bernardo Silva pulled a consolation back for the visitors late on.

Guardiola incensed at the full-time whistle, presumably furious that his team had been denied two penalties in the second half.

And the City boss reacted by going into full sarcasm mode.

After shaking hands with the Liverpool players, Guardiola then made his way to referee Michael Oliver and repeated: “Thank you so much.”

Full marks for sarcasm, Pep.

He also said something, presumably along the same lines, to the two assistant referees standing alongside Oliver.

Around 10 minutes earlier, Guardiola showed that his head had already gone when he theatrically screamed “TWICE!!!” at the assistant referee.

Not a great day at the office for the 48-year-old, who clearly felt that his team were hard done by at Anfield.
