Raheem Sterling was arguably Manchester City’s standout performer against Liverpool on Sunday evening.Despite being booed by the Liverpool supporters who once chanted his name, Sterling didn’t allow the Anfield crowd to get to him and continued working hard right up until the final whistle.Sterling felt he should have been awarded a penalty in the closing stages but referee Michael Oliver waved away his appeals. The 24-year-old, who completed his controversial £49 million move to Man City from Liverpool back in 2015, was also involved in a late altercation with England teammate Joe Gomez.Gomez had replaced Mohamed Salah in the 87th minute and helped to further frustrate Sterling, keeping Liverpool’s two-goal lead intact in the process.

At one point, Sterling pushed Gomez in an attempt to get the ball back during a brief stoppage.

Gomez reacted by grabbing the winger under the arms and shoving him away, before going toe-to-toe and smirking while Sterling said something to him.

This delighted Liverpool fans on social media…

Gomez is 6ft 2in tall, while Sterling is 5ft 7in - so it was an unfair match-up, really.

But Liverpool fans, who clearly haven’t forgiven Sterling for the manner in which he left Anfield four-and-a-half years ago, didn’t care.

They enjoyed seeing Sterling, who was called a “greedy b***ard” by the home crowd at Anfield, getting pushed about by the substitute.

Things could be a little awkward on international duty, mind.

Both players are in England’s squad for the upcoming Euro 2020 qualifiers against Montenegro and Kosovo.

Gareth Southgate will no doubt make sure both players settle their differences before the opening training session.
