Granit Xhaka's time at Arsenal looks to be coming to an end.

Reports in his native Switzerland state that the national team captain will be leaving north London in January to sign for AC Milan.

RSI Sport declare that despite Xhaka stating he would remain at Arsenal after being stripped of the captaincy, the Swiss is already house hunting in Milan.

If the reports are true, it's a sad end to an Arsenal career plagued by criticism from fans and mismanagement from both Unai Emery and Arsene Wenger.

Milan are also reportedly keen on Xhaka's Gunners teammate Lucas Torreira, with Tuttomercatoweb stating that the Uruguayan is unhappy with his current situation under Emery.

Torreira has started just four Premier League games all season and most of the time, he has been deployed in an advanced midfield position, despite his natural role being that of an enforcer.

Come January, Matteo Guendouzi, Joe Willock and Dani Ceballos may be the only central midfielders left at the club!

ANALYSIS

GIVEMESPORT'S Danny Ryan says:

While Xhaka's reaction to criticism from Arsenal fans at Crystal Palace was not on, his exit will seriously weaken Emery's midfield.

Against Leicester, Torreira and Guendouzi as a pivot simply didn't work, with neither play unable to regularly supply Mesut Ozil, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette further forward.

He may have his flaws, but Xhaka is the key man at Arsenal when it comes to linking the midfield and attack.

The Swiss' passing range from deep is easily the finest at the club and Emery has missed a trick by not implementing a system that suits his skill set.

A huge section of Arsenal fans will be glad to se the back of Xhaka, but they should be careful what they wish for.
