Liverpool go into the international break with an extra spring in their step after extending the gap at the top of the table to eight points at the weekend.

The Reds played host to Manchester City on Sunday and comfortably maintained their unbeaten run in the Premier League this season after winning 3-1.

Fabinho produced an absolute stunner to give Liverpool a sixth minute lead before Mohamed Salah stretched their advantage to two goals soon after.

Bernardo Silva pulled one back for City 12 minutes from time but an earlier goal from Sadio Mane had already put the game way out of the visitor’s reach.

And the latter not only had three-quarters of Anfield up on their feet when he bagged Liverpool’s third goal but there were similar scenes in his household too.

Back in Senegal, The Athletic UK’s Oliver Kay spent the day watching the clash with Mane’s family.

And it’s safe to say, they were over the moon with the number 10 writing his name on the score sheet yet again.

His 51st minute header also meant that he maintained his position as Liverpool’s leading scorer for the season after Salah equalled his tally of six earlier in the game.

Adding on to that, Mane is also the most in-form player at Anfield at the moment after Sky handed him a total of 7,197 points based on statistics earlier this week.

There’s plenty for the Mane family to cheer about, that’s for sure.

The forward will now be hoping to take his form into the international break as Senegal take on Congo and Eswatini respectively in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifying stage.

Mane will then touch back down in England ahead of another tough game for the Reds as they travel to Crystal Palace in just over a week’s time.
