Since Cristiano Ronaldo swapped Real Madrid for Juventus last year, it seemed that the Spanish giants would be waiting a long time for another star to steal the spotlight.
However, that is quickly proving not to be the case.
Step forward Karim Benzema.
The 31-year-old arrived at the Bernabeu back in 2009 and has stolen the show ever since Ronaldo departed.
Benzema netted on 21 occasions last season as he finished the campaign as La Liga’s second highest scorer behind Lionel Messi whilst netting the same amount as Ronaldo.

However, after bagging four in his last five league games, he has shot to the top of the leading scorer standings this time around with nine to his name.
Benzema netted a brace in Madrid’s 4-0 win away at Eibar at the weekend, three days after scoring a double against Galatasaray in the Champions League too.
After picking up a prolific goal scoring habit of late, the Frenchman is starting to be likened to the world’s best in Ronaldo and Messi.
In fact, Benzema is proving to be more clinical at the moment.
The 31-year-old has bagged nine so far which compares to eight from Messi and five scored by Ronaldo.
On top of that, the Frenchman is also the sixth-highest goal scorer in La Liga with 157 to his name.
Since Ronaldo left for Italy last year, Benzema has accumulated a total of 41 goals which is more than the Portuguese himself.
Those 41 strikes have come from 97 shots meaning he has a better shots per goal record (2.3) than Messi (2.5) and Ronaldo (3.2).
So it’s safe to say, Benzema is playing the best football of his career and it won’t be long before he will be classed as one of the world’s best.News Now - Sport News
