Few Arsenal players have ever been as universally adored as Santi Cazorla.

The diminutive Spaniard oozed class during his time in England, which was abruptly brought to an end by a serious Achilles injury.

Doctors said Cazorla would be lucky to walk again, but just a few years later he is tearing up La Liga with Villarreal.

The 34-year-old is also a regular in Spain's squad once again and you'll be hard pushed to find a more in-form midfielder in La Liga.

But despite his renaissance with Villarreal, Cazorla still misses everything about his time with the Gunners and he aims to play at the Emirates one last time before he retires.

Cazorla told the Independent: “When you are at a big club like Arsenal, sometimes you don’t realise what it means to be there until you are gone.

“I never got to say a proper goodbye. It was the biggest team I played for in my career and I miss everything about Arsenal. I don’t know what my legacy is there, you would have to ask the fans, but I want to say thank you to them all. I would like to play at the Emirates one last time before I retire.

“I don’t know what I will do afterwards - maybe a coach, maybe a sporting director - but I would love to go back to Arsenal. I lived in London for six years. My son loved it there. In the future, we will see if I have the possibility.”

Don't worry Santi, Arsenal fans miss you too!

Cazorla then went on to state his belief in current Arsenal boss Unai Emery during the club's current crisis.

“Unai Emery is a good coach and it’s a very good team, I watch them play often, but he needs time,” Cazorla said.

“It’s a new generation and it’s very difficult to compete against teams like Man City and Liverpool. It’s difficult to know [why the club has stalled]. They have the players, they have the fans, the stadium, they have everything to do it but they have to believe it.”

Cazorla has already scored five goals and assisted four more in 13 league games for Villarreal this season, far better stats than any Arsenal midfielder.

To put it simply, the Spaniard would walk into the current Gunners team and would undoubtedly be their star man in the middle of the park.

Cazorla may miss Arsenal, but they miss him far more.
