Last night, Cristiano Ronaldo scored the 55th hat-trick of his illustrious career.

The Juventus and Portugal superstar has taken the art of goal scoring to new heights as he closes in on Ali Daei's international record of 109 goals.

Currently on 98, Ronaldo is well on course to equal and surpass the Iranian's tally and he'll probably notch a few more hat-tricks along the way.

With trebles on the mind, we here at GIVEMESPORT have decided to rank Ronaldo's 10 greatest hat-tricks.

It wasn't easy to narrow them down, but we've given it our best shot.

10. Man Utd vs Newcastle, 2008

Perhaps not his finest skill wise, but his treble against the Toon Army in 2008 was his first ever.

A free-kick under the Newcastle wall got the ball rolling for the electric Manchester United winger, before Carlos Tevez teed him up perfectly to smash home his brace.

His hat-trick was completed after some lacklustre defending with Newcastle, with Ronaldo sending a defender for a hotdog and then calmly slotting the ball home with his left.

9. Real Madrid vs Granada, 2015

Why is this one so special? Because in Real Madrid's 9-1 win over Granada, Ronaldo scored FIVE TIMES.

Four of his goals came in the space of 24 minutes, with the third of the bunch an absolute rocket from outside the box.

In typical Ronaldo fashion, he completed his quintet of strikes with a towering header at the back post to seal a famous victory for Los Blancos in front of the Bernabeu crowd.

8. Espanyol vs Real Madrid, 2015

Amazingly, Ronaldo didn't achieve the feat of scoring five goals in a match only once, he replicated it the same year away at Espanyol.

But this time he added an assist, meaning he was involved in every single goal during Real's 6-0 win.

Ronaldo scored his hat-trick inside 20 minutes, teed up Karim Benzema to take Los Blancos 4-0 up at half-time and then added two more in the second half. Some performance.

7. Portugal vs Switzerland, 2019

The semi-final of the inaugural UEFA Nations League and Portugal need a hero to help defeat a spirited and talented Switzerland side. Step forward, Ronaldo.

A gravity-defying free-kick, a calm first-time finish in the box and a devastating solo effort on the counter sealed Portugal's passage to the final.

They went on to lift the trophy on home soil after beating Holland in the final.

6. Portugal vs Spain, 2018

The 2018 World Cup started with a bang, thanks to Ronaldo.

In the Iberian derby, the Juventus star took centre stage, with his inch-perfect free-kick past David de Gea in the dying stages of the game an iconic footballing moment.

His first came from the penalty spot, before an error by De Gea gifted him his second.

5. Real Madrid vs Wolfsburg, 2016

After losing 2-0 out in Germany the previous game, Real Madrid were staring down the barrel of defeat and a humiliating Champions League exit.

But when you have Ronaldo in your attack, the odds are always stacked in your favour and the enigmatic forward scored all three goals to send Los Blancos into the next round.

After bringing the scores level with a deft header from a corner, Ronaldo won the tie in sensational fashion with a beautiful dipping free-kick over the Wolfsburg wall.

4. Real Madrid vs Bayern Munich, 2017

When Bayern are in town, you always have to be on your toes, especially when the game goes to extra-time.

A stunning diving header from Ronaldo to make it 1-1 on the night looked to have taken Real through, but a Sergio Ramos own goal added an extra 30 minutes to the tie.

However, Ronaldo didn't care, firing home a half-volley with his left (when he was actually offside) and then tapping one him with his right shortly after to complete a perfect hat-trick, sending Real to the semi-final.

3. Real Madrid vs Atletico Madrid, 2017

After his hat-trick had sent Real through to the last four, the club's local rivals arrived at the Bernabeu with revenge on their minds - the perfect stage for the Portuguese legend to thrive.

The 2017 edition of domestic football's greatest competition was like a playground for Ronaldo as he swatted Atletico away with ease at the Bernabeu.

A well-placed header, a thumping half-volley and a cool, collected finish late in the day capped off one of the great man's finest night's in a Real shirt.

2. Juventus vs Atletico Madrid, 2019

Losing 2-0 to the best defensive side in Europe? That's no issue for the Champions League's greatest ever player.

From the realms of despair, Ronaldo dragged Juve kicking and screaming to the quarter-final with a memorable hat-trick.

Two fantastic headers were capped off by a perfectly executed penalty under pressure in the dying stages of the match. He makes it all look so easy, doesn't he?

1. Sweden vs Portugal, 2014

As any footballer will tell you, sending your country to a World Cup is one of the greatest things you can ever do.

And only Ronaldo could do just that by scoring a hat-trick, a bloody brilliant one at that to eliminate a Zlatan Ibrahimovic-inspired Sweden.

A stunning finish with his left foot on the counter put Portugal one up, but Sweden turned the game on its head to lead 2-1.

Commeth the hour, commeth the man, as Ronaldo levelled the scores with another pinpoint finish on his weaker foot, before sealing the win minutes later to stun the Swedish crowd.

The Portuguese commentary on that memorable hat-trick is almost as good as the goals!

Imagine have a collection of hat-tricks that is better than most players' goal collections.

There is no two ways about it, we are watching one of the greatest sportsman ever and when he finally calls it a day, the footballing world will just not be the same.
