Andy Ruiz Jr nearly knocked out his own trainer during a pads session ahead of his rematch with Anthony Joshua.

The Mexican has stepped up his training as he plots to stun the Brit for a second time when they meet in Saudi Arabia on December 7.

Ruiz Jr was rehearsing a series of rapid-fire combinations when he accidentally clipped his pads man with a left hook.

The blow appeared to land flush on his temple prompting him to stagger to one side before regaining his footing in the ring.

A concerned Ruiz Jr then walked towards the coach who signals he is OK, before being embraced by the WBA, IBF, and WBO heavyweight champion.

The footage was shared on the Mexican’s Instagram channel yesterday and has already racked up more than 500,000 views.

The 30-year-old has undergone a dramatic body transformation over the past 12 months and looks far leaner and in much better condition.

This new slimline version of Ruiz Jr can be attributed to his nutritionist, who has prevented him from snacking on junk food.

“Andy’s weight is coming down. He’s working really hard in the gym which is a factor,” said Ruiz’s dietician per Sky Sports.

“His diet? Fish, salmon, pasta on sparring days. Once in a while we have a cheat day but nothing too crazy, man.

“The goal is to keep him eating clean, keep him eating healthy.

“Feeling light is what we’re going for. We want to keep him light.

“We’re not targeting a specific weight, maybe the same weight or a little less.

“But we want to feel light so it’s easier for him to move on his feet.”

Meanwhile, it appears as though AJ has been sparring with Timothy Moten as part of his preparations as he enters the bout as the challenger.

Although it has not been officially confirmed, the 5-0 (2 KOs) American has uploaded multiple clips of himself training at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield, where AJ bases himself with coach Rob McCracken.
