Argentina beat Brazil to win the Superclasico de las Americas on Friday night. The match is essentially just a glorified friendly that's played between the two teams every year. But at full-time, a trophy is handed to the winners. That means Lionel Messi finally got his hands on another international honour, not that he'll really be counting it.It was actually his first appearance for Argentina since July and on his return, the captain made all the difference. Messi scored the only goal of the game, tapping in from close range after his penalty was saved by Alisson Becker.

In truth, the game was rather dull, but aside from settling the result, the Barcelona star did provide another glimpse of brilliance.

He's not usually famed for his defending but in the 78th minute, with Brazil chasing an equaliser, Messi made a brilliant tackle to relieve pressure on his team, before taking the ball over the halfway line.

Once in the opposition half, he then embarrassed former Barca teammate Philippe Coutinho with a nice bit of skill. Check it out below:

Impressive stuff from the Argentine captain - he completely fooled Coutinho with a quick change of direction and even picked out a teammate with his through ball.

The match was being played in Saudi Arabia and while Messi impressed the local supporters on Friday night, Brazil forward Gabriel Jesus certainly didn't.

He took an absolutely terrible penalty, passing the ball wide of the right post. You can see that clip below:

Awful. What makes this miss even worse is that Jesus did the exact same thing for Manchester City in the Champions League last week.

Perhaps it's time to let someone else take the spot kicks, Gabriel.
