Lionel Messi enjoyed a successful return to the international stage as Argentina beat Brazil 1-0. The 32-year-old scored the only goal of the game, initially missing his penalty but scoring the rebound. It means the Albiceleste can enjoy bragging rights after lifting the Superclasico de las Americas. And you get the feeling the Barcelona star enjoyed being back at centre-stage against fitting opposition. Messi was returning from a three-month ban by CONMEBOL after claiming the Copa America was fixed in Brazil's favour.

His last international appearance had seen him sent off following an altercation with Chile's Gary Medel in the third-place play-off of that tournament.

While his comeback passed without incident, he wasn't exactly in shy, retiring mood again.

Brazil boss Tite felt Messi should have been booked for a challenge and made that known to the referee.

The forward was having none of his protestations and was seen on camera telling the manager to shut up.

Tite had also been irked by the penalty incident, believing Alex Sandro had made a perfectly legitimate tackle on Messi.

In a sense, though, the Selecao only had themselves to blame, Gabriel Jesus producing yet another shocking miss from the spot as his country drew a blank.

After the game, Tite continued his protests against Messi.

"I don’t want to answer anymore on it. You need a strong referee," he said, per Metro.

"It should have been a card, I was right to complain."

Messi will be looking to continue his successful return when Argentina face Uruguay on Monday if the game goes ahead.

The fixture, which will be staged in Tel Aviv, could yet be cancelled because of continued unrest in Israel.
