The international break serves up a good time to reflect on the first three months of the 2019/20 Premier League season.

Nobody is happier right now than Liverpool, who have an eight-point lead at the top of the table.

Jurgen Klopp’s side have won 11 and drawn one of their opening 12 league matches. They’re well on their way to winning the title for the first time since 1990.

Second-placed Leicester City have been mightily impressive under Brendan Rodgers while Frank Lampard’s Chelsea are reaping the benefits of placing trust in the kids.

But Watford, Norwich City and Southampton, who have combined for just five wins and find themselves in the relegation zone, will need to improve or else this could be a long season.

If the season was to end today, Sheffield United would be playing European football in 2020/21, Tottenham Hotspur would finish 14th and Liverpool would end their agonishing wait to lift the Premier League title.

Premier League report cards

But there is still a long way to go and fortunes are bound to change. All that we can do for now is reflect on the first 12 gameweeks, identify what’s gone well and what needs to improve and speculate as to what’s to come.

The Daily Mail have written report cards for all 20 clubs based on their showings so far, giving a grade from A+ to F.

So Fs for Southampton, Tottenham, Watford and West Ham.

And it's hard to look past the D+ grade given to Man City. That seems harsh for a side in the top four and with time left to catch Liverpool.

But we're certainly not arguing the D- grades given to Arsenal and Man United. Neither have progressed and both must try harder.
