There were scenes of utter jubilation as the curtains drew on what was a day of pulsating racing at the Brazilian Grand Prix.Despite Max Verstappen taking top spot in South America, eyes were drawn towards young Frenchman Pierre Gasly, who bested Lewis Hamilton to claim his first ever F1 podium finish. The 23-year-old took advantage of a collision between the Brit and Alexander Albon in the penultimate lap to claim second place for himself and Toro Rosso. The pure excitement and celebration could be seen and heard from his race car, with his screams of passion echoing and his fists pumping as he crossed the finish line.Lewis Hamilton was meant to join him on the podium in third, but after a post-race investigation, was deducted five points resulting in a seventh-placed finish.

This decision was made as a result of that collision with Red Bull’s Albon.

The sheer pride and joy follows what has been a difficult and turbulent past few years for Gasly, who was signed by Red Bull in 2016, before being dropped to their junior team Toro Rosso earlier this season.

Ironically, he was then replaced by Albon, with Gasly currently sitting nine points above the Thai in the F1 driver rankings, who finished 15th overall.

Although, the race was marred by the fact that Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc crashed out towards the end of proceedings following a closely contested battle with teammate Sebastian Vettel.

The race was also a showcase for the war between Verstappen and Hamilton, with both attempting to out-do the other on numerous occasions.

The rivalry displayed perfectly when Verstappen was called in for a pit stop to change his tyres, with the Mercedes team championing Hamilton to continue on.

The old tyres costing the Brit in the long run, with the well-equipped Verstappen in the perfect shape to take pole position.
