Mercedes driver Valtteri Bottas was captured demonstrating his mild shock in regards to the two Ferrari drivers, former four-time World Champion Sebastian Vettel and Charles Leclerc, colliding on lap 66 just five laps before the end of the Brazilian Grand Prix yesterday. The Finnish driver had himself not been able to finish the race after his engine had blown up on lap 52.Bottas had, however, caused the start of the chaotic end to the race having parked his car at the side of the track, causing a safety car to be deployed. This led to the incident occurring between Vettel and Leclerc, just 14 laps later. The German made light contact with his teammate’s left rear tyre coming into turn four, just five laps from the end of the race, causing Leclerc’s suspension to break and giving Vettel a right-rear puncture.

Consequently, this led to both Ferrari drivers retiring, causing Ferrari as a team to leave Interlagos empty handed in terms of points for the Formula One World Championship.

Immediately after the incident, the German vented on his team radio, becoming so angry that he started his rant in English, and finished it in his native tongue.

Bottas’ reaction to incident echoes the thoughts of Formula One experts that it was only a matter of time before something were to happen between the two drivers.

Leclerc had established himself as the star of the team and is expected to finish ahead of his teammate in the Drivers' Championship this year. Subsequently, Vettel’s position as the senior driver is now under serious threat for the 2020 season.

Head of Ferrari Mattia Binotto has been trying to manage tensions between the two drivers all year, and had described it initially as a ‘luxury’ to have two closely matched competitors.

The question now remains, how will Binotto and leading members of Ferrari handle the Vettel-Leclerc situation going into the 2020 Formula One World Championship?
