The 4-3-3 formation has become increasingly popular among the top teams of the last decade.

The very best no longer rely on one out-and-out striker; they have players banging in the goals from right across the front line.

Coaches like Jurgen Klopp also favour the system because it allows their sides to press high up the pitch - and the Liverpool boss certainly has the players at his disposal to make it effective.

Mo Salah, Sadio Mane, and Roberto Firmino have established a reputation as a formidable front three, the former two both sharing the Golden Boot with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the 2018/19 season.

However, they may have some way to go before claiming to be the deadliest in Europe.

Data from Transfermarkt shows which teams boast the trios with the most goals and the results will certainly spark debate.

Lazio's Ciro Immobile, Joaquín Correa and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic have a combined 22 goals, even though they can't really be classed as a 'front three'.

Below them in the standings sit Bayern Munich with 21 goals. As you might expect, though, Robert Lewandowski has scored 16 of those, with Serge Gnabry and Philippe Coutinho netting three and two respectively. These are just league goals.

Manchester City's potent attack of Sergio Aguero (9), Raheem Sterling (7), and Bernardo Silva (5) have the same tally as the Bavarians.

The breakdown of other attacking trios, in order, looks like this:

4. Chelsea | 19 | Tammy Abraham (10), Christian Pulisic (5), Mason Mount (4)

5. Villarreal | 18 | Gerard Moreno (8), Karl Toko Ekambi (5), Santi Cazorla (5)

6. Leicester | 18| Jamie Vardy (11), James Maddison (4), Youri Tielemans (3)

7. RB Leipzig | 18 | Timo Werner (11), Marcel Sabitzer (4), Christoper Nkunku (3)

8. Atalanta | 18 | Luis Muriel (8), Duvan Zapata (6), Josip Ilicic (4)

9. Barcelona | 18 | Lionel Messi (8), Luis Suarez (6), Antoine Griezmann (4)

10. Monaco | 17 | Wissam Ben Yedder (9), Islam Slimani (5), Aleksandr Golovin (3)

11. Lyon | 17 | Moussa Dembele (9), Memphis Depay (7), Houssem Aouar (1)

12. Inter Milan | 17 | Romelu Lukaku (9), Lautaro Martinez (5), Stefano Sensi (3)

13. Liverpool | 16 | Sadio Mane (7), Mo Salah (6), Roberto Firmino (3)

14. Sassuolo | 15 | Domenico Berardi (7), Francesco Caputo (5), Jeremie Boga (3)

15. Paris Saint-Germain | 15 | Kylian Mbappe (5), Mauro Icardi (5), Angel Di Maria (5)

This comes with an obvious caveat that these are simply each club's three highest goalscorers this season.

Liverpool, for example, also have Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain chipping in with four goals.

Meanwhile, Lewandowski looks to be carrying Bayern Munich, whereas PSG's front three are perfectly evenly matched.

It provides an intriguing comparison of which forwards are having the biggest impact.
