The Champions League anthem has shimmered through some of the most famous stadiums in world football over the years.

Europe's premier competition has taken place in legendary arenas such as Old Trafford and Vicente Calderon, while the current batch of 32 similarly includes some bona fide footballing cathedrals.

However, we're not looking at the contemporary grounds on mere sentimental value, rather we're traipsing through the endless reviews that accumulate on popular website TripAdvisor.

We've already ranked Premier League stadiums by their reviews - ordering by star rating, excellent reviews and then terrible ones if necessary - and now it's Europe's turn to go under the microscope.

The competition is so tough that some arenas, including the top two, have identical statistics and we've been forced to award the gold medal to the ground with the most positive reviews in general.

And if anybody is wondering where Lokomotiv Stadium (Lokomotiv Moscow) and Luminous Arena (Genk) are lurking, we're afraid they didn't have Trip Advisor pages to qualify for the rankings.

Another win for Anfield

They claimed the Premier League TripAdvisor trophy and now Liverpool have the Champions League one for good measure.

It seems fitting that the European champions collected the prize, although they only squeaked into first place by amassing the same stats as Signal Iduna Park with 6,000 more backers.

We'll let you decide whether Dortmund's ground would still hold its own against Anfield if it attracted that many reviews, but it means Jurgen Klopp has been a very lucky manager if nothing else.

Shakhtar's temporary home of the Metallist Stadium has done astonishingly well in four place, while the Wanda Metropolitano and Parc des Princes have flopped badly despite their teams' statuses.

But food and atmosphere complaints aside, this smorgasbord of fan opinion shows that the competition for the Champions League's finest match-day experience is stronger than ever.
