Mauricio Pochettino sacked: Jose Mourinho is the heavy favourite to replace him

So, Mauricio Pochettino has left Tottenham after five-and-a-half-years at the club.

The Argentine may not have won a trophy during his time in north London but he will always be remembered fondly.

He took a very average Spurs side and turned them into a consistent Champions League side - reaching the final in Madrid last season.

Under Pochettino, Spurs have finished fifth, third, second, third and fourth.

But the club have made a wretched start to the new campaign and are currently sitting 14th in the Premier League.

In fact, with their last 24 Premier League games, Spurs have picked up just 25 points.

That sort of form simply can’t continue, according to Daniel Levy.

In a club statement on Tuesday night, he wrote: "Regrettably domestic results at the end of last season and beginning of this season have been extremely disappointing.

“It falls to the Board to make the difficult decisions - this one made more so given the many memorable moments we have had with Mauricio and his coaching staff - but we do so in the Club's best interests.”

You’d think that the Spurs hierarchy now have a plan.

But which manager features in those plans?

Well, according to the odds, that man is Jose Mourinho.

Mourinho is now 1/3 heavy favourite to be the man to replace Pochettino.

As well as those odds, journalist Fabrizio Romano added: “Tottenham are considering José Mourinho as new manager, after sacking Pochettino. And José would be open to start a discussion with Spurs. Daniel Levy will decide on next hours.”

We can’t imagine Spurs fans would be too impressed with the club going from one of their most stable managers to the controversial Mourinho.

This could be fun…
