Tottenham’s form in 2019 has been pretty shocking but, despite that, nobody was really expecting them to sack Mauricio Pochettino on Tuesday night.

Pochettino had been in north London for five-and-a-half-years years and during his five full seasons, led the club to fifth, third, second, third and fourth-placed finishes.

That’s not to mention his greatest achievement at the club - reaching last season’s Champions League final.

But, ultimately, no trophies and 25 points in their last 24 league games saw Daniel Levy pull the trigger.

It’s a decision that hasn’t gone down too well with Spurs fans.

And the same can probably be said about the players.

As is common these days, the first we hear from players following breaking news is by their social media reaction.

And after Spurs announced their decision to sack Pochettino, we were waiting for the players to give their verdict on the news.

The first to react?

Dele Alli.

In fact, as of midnight on Tuesday, the midfielder was the only Spurs star to give their thoughts on Pochettino’s sacking.

He did so by tweeting: “I can’t thank this man enough. He’s taught me so much and I’m so grateful for everything he’s done for me. Good luck and hope to see you again my friend.”

Emotional stuff.

Allí has spent his entire Spurs career under Pochettino, playing almost 200 times for the club.

He’s also represented England 37 times and has the Argentine to thank for giving him an opportunity to play for Spurs at such a young age.

We’ll no doubt see many more Tottenham players coming out with social media statements as the news of Pochettino’s sacking sinks in but Alli seems genuinely gutted.
