Tottenham are looking for their first trophy since their 2008 League Cup triumph and they’ve turned to Jose Mourinho following Mauricio Pochettino’s sacking.

Mourinho is a serial winner, having won 25 major trophies at Porto, Inter Milan, Chelsea, Real Madrid and Manchester United.

Chairman Daniel Levy wrote: “In Jose, we have one of the most successful managers in football. He has a wealth of experience, can inspire teams and is a great tactician. He has won honours at every club he has coached. We believe he will bring energy and belief to the dressing room.”

But Mourinho takes over a side laying in 14th place, having won 25 points from their last 24 Premier League games and without an away win since January.

You just know the ‘Special One’ will spend big in the next two transfer windows in an attempt to transform those fortunes.

But how will Spurs look come the opening day of next season?

Well, GIVEMESPORT have decided to have a bit of fun and predict how Spurs could look:

Goalkeeper | Paulo Gazzaniga

Hugo Lloris turns 33 next month and has been error-prone in recent years. Whenever Gazzaniga has come in, he’s performed well and could well establish himself as Tottenham’s No.1 when Lloris returns from his elbow injury.

Right-back | Youcef Atal

Can you imagine Mourinho putting up with Serge Aurier? No, neither can we.

He may look to 23-year-old Nice full-back Atal as a possible solution.

The Algerian would cost around £35 million and Chelsea are rumoured to also be interested.

Centre-back | Dayot Upamecano

With Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen’s contracts expiring at the end of the season, Mourinho simply can’t rely on the pair staying.

So, he’ll have to spend big on a centre-back to replace them.

Step forward one of the most promising young defenders in European football.

The RB Leipzig defender has been linked with a move to the Premier League with Arsenal, Manchester City and Spurs sniffing around.

Centre-Back | Davinson Sanchez

With Alderweireld and Vertonghen potentially leaving, Sanchez will be given a prominent role in Spurs’ defence.

Mourinho could well relish the chance to turn the Colombian into a formidable defender because Sanchez has all the ingredients to become just that.

Left-back | Ryan Sessegnon

Sessegnon’s Tottenham’s career is yet to really start after arriving at the club injured.

But with Danny Rose continuing to struggle in that position, Mourinho will surely show faith in the 19-year-old next season.

Defensive midfield | Eric Dier

Dier is out of favour at Spurs right now but he might relish the arrival of Mourinho.

Dier started his career in Portugal, and Mourinho was desperate to sign the midfielder whilst at Manchester United.

You can just imagine Mourinho turning Dier into a colossal defensive midfielder.

Centre-midfield | Tanguy Ndombele

Perhaps one of very few positives for Spurs this season. The £54 million signing has shown glimpses of being a very decent signing and Mourinho could get the best out of him.

Centre-midfield | Bruno Fernandes

Fernandes somehow remained at Sporting Lisbon in the summer despite interest from the likes of Spurs and United.

Can Mourinho tempt his compatriot to join him at White Hart Lane?

Left-wing | Gareth Bale

On the same night that Pochettino was sacked from Spurs, Bale appeared to put the final nail in his Real Madrid coffin.

After helping his nation qualify for Euro 2020, Bale held up a Welsh flag that read: ‘Wales. Golf. Madrid. In that order.’

It seems only a matter of time before Bale finally leaves the Bernabeu. Is a temporary or permanent return to Spurs on the cards?

Right-wing | Son Heung-min

A talented attacking winger that works hard - Mourinho will love Son.

Striker | Harry Kane

Mourinho will be desperate to keep hold of Kane and will want him to continue as club captain.

With Mourinho arriving, Kane will surely want to see how things pan out before making any decision on his future.

ANALYSIS

GIVEMESPORT’s Rob Hoskin says: On paper, that Spurs line-up looks pretty decent. No striker would want to come up against a centre-back pairing of Upamecano and Sanchez, while Atal and Sessegnon can provide an attacking threat from full-back.

A lot will depend on whether Mourinho can rejuvenate Dier’s career. He will at least try for the remainder of this current campaign. But with Ndombele and Fernandes in the centre of the park, Spurs would have one of the best midfield pairings in the Premier League.

Like Alderweireld and Vertonghen, Christian Eriksen’s contract runs out in the summer and, while there’s a possibility he could still stay at the club, we’re going to assume the trio leave.

As for Dele Alli, we fear for his Spurs career with Mourinho in charge.

Then comes Bale.

An emotional return makes sense but can Spurs really afford his wages? After ‘flag-gate’ Real will probably just be glad to get rid of him at any cost, in truth.

If a deal for Bale isn’t possible, Mourinho could look to Paulo Dybala, who the club were heavily linked with last season.

But Son and Kane look set to stay at the club and will play an important role in this Mourinho side.
