Wesley Sneijder: I could've been on the same level as Messi and Ronaldo

Sneijder believes he had the talent to match Messi and Ronaldo

Wesley Sneijder will go down as one of the finest playmakers to have played the beautiful game.

During his time with Inter Milan between 2009 and 2013, the Dutchman made playing football look easy, leading the Italian side to the treble in 2009/10.

Sneijder also starred for Holland at the 2010 World Cup, where his performances guided them to the final, where they were eventually beaten by Spain and Andres Iniesta's memorable winner.

But given his displays with Inter prior to that tournament, Sneijder was surely confident that he would be awarded the Ballon d'Or come the end of the year.

Sadly, he was beaten to the punch by Barcelona legend Lionel Messi, with the Argentine scooping the award for the second time.

That loss clearly still weighs on the mind of Sneijder, because the Dutchman has made a rather bold claim about the talent of Messi and fellow five-time Ballon d'Or winner, Cristiano Ronaldo.

Speaking to Fox, Sneijder said: “If I would have lived 100% for my sport, I would have joined the list of Cristiano & Messi. I know that. But I didn’t want to, and I don’t regret that. It’s not like I couldn’t do it, I just didn’t want to.”

If you say so, Wesley.

The Dutchman then went on to fire more shots at Ronaldo over his sub-par free-kick accuracy with Juventus.

“If you look at Cristiano, he will stand behind the ball 30 times and won’t score 1," Sneijder added. "Then I think to myself, how?”

Ouch, apply cold water to burned area, Cristiano.

Finally, Sneijder decided to give his opinion on the best player he played with during his time at Real Madrid, before he signed for Inter.

He left in 2009, so he couldn't throw more shade on poor ol' Ronaldo.

Sneijder with Real Madrid

“Best player I ever played with? Then I choose Guti," Sneijder said. "He impressed me the most. Me and Guti found each other blindly on the pitch, that man was phenomanal. Of-course I played with lots of big players but he impressed me the most.”
