2019 was the first time since WrestleMania 30 where Roman Reigns did not headline WWE's showpiece event.

At that time, the Big Dog was still a part of The Shield, and in New Orleans in 2014 he teamed with Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose to defeat Kane and the New Age Outlaws in ultra-quick fashion.

The following four years though saw a streak of main event matches for Reigns - three of them being for world championships and the other being against The Undertaker.

Reigns was already getting negative reactions in 2015 at the start of his push, but year-on-year they grew worse and it got to the point where Brock Lesnar received a huge pop for 'overcoming the odds' and defeating Reigns in 2018.

Due to the circumstances of his leukaemia battle though late last year, Reigns had to take some time out of the squared circle, and when he returned he found himself trying to build himself back up - and got a mid-card Mania bout against Drew McIntyre.

Roman hasn't actually had a world title shot since his return in March, but the reactions to his character have improved.

But he was never going to be held back in mid-card purgatory forever, and according to Wrestling News he's set to play a big part at WrestleMania 36 in Tampa.

Paul Davis writes that his sources have told him Reigns will be pushed back into the title picture when 2020 arrives, with his feud with King Corbin likely to conclude at TLC next month.

Reigns is still obviously the face of the company despite taking a back seat from the main event picture, but there's every chance that he's on for a collision course with 'The Fiend' Bray Wyatt at Mania for the Universal Championship.

That would be some spectacle, but it would just likely put Reigns in the position of being booed heavily again as the WWE Universe love Wyatt.

It's a risk that Vince McMahon is going to have to take though if he wants to position his idea of the 'face of the company' against the hottest thing in the business - unless he decides to shock the world and turn Reigns heel... but that's never happening!
