Jose Mourinho is officially back in management.

The Portuguese boss has been without a job since leaving Manchester United last December.

He has since turned down multiple job offers and has been working as a pundit.

But he finally decided to return to the dugout as he was appointed Tottenham Hotspur boss on Wednesday morning.

Mauricio Pochettino was given the boot on Tuesday evening and within 12 hours it was confirmed that Mourinho was his successor.

Mourinho now has the task of rescuing Spurs' season. They are currently 14th in the Premier League and in serious danger of missing out on qualifying for next season's Champions League.

Daniel Levy has often been reluctant to spend at Spurs but he's broken the bank to sign Mourinho.

Mourinho has been given a €17.5 million-per-year deal, which is more than double what Pochettino earned at the club.

But how does Mourinho's new contract compare to the rest of the world's best paid managers?

According to Italian journalist Tancredi Palmeri, below is the world's top 10 highest paid managers...

10. Jurgen Klopp | Liverpool | €8 million

9. Ernesto Valverde | Barcelona | €9 million

8. Thomas Tuchel | Paris Saint-Germain | €9 million

7. Antonio Conte | Inter Milan | €11 million

6. Zinedine Zidane | Real Madrid | €12 million

5. Fabio Cannavaro | Guangzhou Evergrande | €12 million

4. Rafael Benitez | Dalian Yifang | €13.5 million

3. Diego Simeone | Atletico Madrid | €15 million

2. Jose Mourinho | Tottenham Hotspur | €17.5 million

1. Pep Guardiola | Manchester City | €23 million

So it turns out that Mourinho has just become the second highest paid manager in the world, with only Guardiola earning more than him.

Interestingly, Mourinho earns more than double what Klopp does at Liverpool.

Klopp has established himself as arguably the world's best manager after his heroics at the Reds.

However, while €8 million-per-year is a lot of money, it can be argued that Klopp should be earning more.

Inter Milan showed great ambition this summer when they appointed Conte and they gave him a substantial amount of money in the process.

It appears that has been money well spent though, with Inter having won 10 of their opening 12 Serie A matches.

Two Chinese club managers also make the top 10.

Cannavaro was a wonderful footballer but is yet to have the same success as a manager. But that hasn't stopped Guangzhou Evergrande paying him €12 million-per-year.

Benitez disappointed a lot of Newcastle fans when he left for Dalian Yifang in the summer.

But you can't really blame him considering he had the opportunity to become the fourth highest paid manager in the world.
