It's been a whirlwind few days at Tottenham Hotspur.

After the bold decision to sack Mauricio Pochettino on Tuesday evening, Spurs unveiled Jose Mourinho as the Argentine's replacement in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Usually, replacing a manager can take anywhere from weeks to months, but reports are suggesting that Daniel Levy had teed up Mourinho's arrival ever since the 1-1 draw with Watford.

And now that the 'Special One' has arrived in north London, you can guarantee that the Tottenham players will be feeling the difference after just a few training sessions.

Players like Christian Eriksen and Toby Alderweireld, who have been accused of somewhat downing tools this season, will surely be in for a shock with Mourinho's no-nonsense management.

Mourinho arrives at Tottenham

While on the other hand, you can expect Mourinho to put a fatherly arm around players like Harry Kane and Eric Dier, who could really kick on under his guidance.

But such is the deflated atmosphere at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium that Mourinho's first priority will be raising morale in time for their first game against West Ham United.

And that's easier said than done with Tottenham languishing in 14th place, winning just three Premier League games out of a possible 12.

Mourinho's speech to Spurs players

According to Portuguese outlet Record, Mourinho's main tactic came in the form of a rallying speech to the Spurs squad as well as a series of one-on-one chats with senior members.

The 56-year-old is reported to have told players he would be "your father, friend, girlfriend, whatever you want."

Mourinho then reiterated that the players are far better than their league form - which features defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion and Newcastle United - would suggest.

Squad leaders such as Hugo Lloris, Kane and Alderweireld were then pulled aside for individual chats and Mourinho event joked about his 2015 comment that he would never manager Spurs.

There's an unexpected positivity swirling around Mourinho's appointment at the moment.

Whereas Mourinho looked glum and uninterested from his first day at Manchester United, it's almost as though 11 months away from management has rebooted the 'Special One.'

There's so much doom and gloom around Tottenham that Mourinho needs to be an avuncular figure and both his press conference and behind the scenes reports suggest he's doing just that.

He'll be hoping to construct the mother of all new manager bounces as a result, but the real challenge will be maintaining the momentum that eventually failed Pochettino.

Make no mistake, inheriting this Tottenham squad is one of the toughest challenges that Mourinho has ever faced. Luckily, though, the only way is up in the short term.
